Can Foreign Nurses get Government Jobs with a Permenant Resident Status?
The question was in the title of the thread : Can Foreign Nurses get Government Jobs with a Permanent Resident Status? The body of the post was there to give more of a background but the main question was in the title. Thoughts?

Can Foreign Nurses get Government Jobs with a Permenant Resident Status?
I'm a Filipina Nurse licensed in this state. I'm happily married to a wonderful husband. Recently, I applied for a Government Nursing Home Job that said "US Citizens" and "Status Candidates" can apply for the position. Being that I currently work as a VA Nurse in another state for the past 4 years, and have Permanent Resident Status here in the US, I figure I can apply for a Government position and fall under the category of a "Status Candidate". On a side note, although I work as a VA Nurse, I'm technically a "state employee" [not Government Employee] as the Government partially funds this nursing home...not totally funding it as it appears with a traditional government job. Was offered a tentative position, but they just rescinded the offer because my Permanent Residence Status is not good enough. Talk about giving your hopes up....HELP !!!!! Anybody else run into this situation?

Fallout of Obamacare Question: Best Advanced Nursing Degree To Pursue?
Talked with a Director of Nursing today and she said that because physicians will be impacted negatively that Nurse Practitioners will be negatively impacted because [essentially] they play very similar roles. Now that I'm thinking about it....Family Physicians are going into many specialty type niches...and it maybe wise that Nurse Practitioners may want to follow-suit. P.S. These are just some thoughts. Not saying it will happen. Just thinking out loud for those that want to read :) Blessings all, Asian Gal

Fallout of Obamacare Question: Best Advanced Nursing Degree To Pursue?
So, under ACA, how do you think the role of the CRNA will change? And the FNP? Obviously, I've given my opinion....but I'm not saying I'm right. Would love to hear yours.

Fallout of Obamacare Question: Best Advanced Nursing Degree To Pursue?
I'm an RN of 32 years old with 6 years of experience. I'm motivated and looking to further my education and marketability as a nurse. As I'm pondering my decision, obviously one must look at the fallout of Obamacare will have on the future of an advanced nursing degree. That as a foundation, my questions are as follows: 1) Which advanced nursing degree would be wise to pursue knowing the Obamacare is just around the corner? I know you should choose a career path that best caters to your passion and strength.....but I'm just just seriously curious overall on what everyone's opinions are!!! 2) CRNA versus Nurse Practitioner - Which Nursing Professional (in your opinion) will benefit more (and get a greater Return on Investment) with their advanced degree? I know these 2 positions vastly differ in many ways...but my sense is one would be in more demand than the other. Based on my research, this is what I'm sensing: 1) Nurse Practitioners will be in greater demand because of the many doctors may getting out of the profession...causing a greater demand for Nurse Practitioners. More demand...equals more job security and pay. 2) CRNA's will be in less demand (and maybe get less of a Return on Investment) with this advanced degree than an Nurse Practitioner. The medical field seems to be going to the more "home health care" and the extreme causes related to Hospitals may force hospitals to have less budget to pay for CRNA's. Yes...I know that there will always people needing surgeries ect. But with many people going for CRNA's....the market could be much more saturated then the Nurse Practitioner 3) Masters in Science in Nursing (MSN) - Not sure how Obamacare will effect this but would appreciate anybodies input if a MSN is a better degree to pursue than an NP or CRNA. To me, common sense tells you, that getting a NP or CRNA would be better. In closing, thanks for letting me share all this as I'm a person that thinks as I type. In terms of a potential decision, I've learned that some of the best choices you make are the ones you didn't make. After thinking things through a little bit more, perhaps (just perhaps) Obamacare will lesson the salaries of these Advanced Nursing Degrees and people won't get a good return on investment with their degrees. That said....perhaps its best to just be content where I'm at :) Thoughts/Opinions?

I'm a Filipina Naturalized Citizen - Can I get a job at the VA ?
That is a breath of fresh air as I wasn't sure if they look at it differently or not. Technically, I'm not a US Citizen in terms of voting and Social Security....so wasn't sure if this also applies to VA Govt. Jobs. Thanks for clarifying

I'm a Filipina Naturalized Citizen - Can I get a job at the VA ?
The reason I ask is I'm looking at VA Jobs (in a hospital setting) and it says US. Citizens and "Status Candidates" may apply. I know I'm a Naturalized US Citizen...but don't know if this applies to me or not. Please forgive me in advance as I've only been in the US now for 3 years. Please be kind :) Thanks everyone !

Can you Negotiate Salary or Relocation with Arizona State Veterans Jobs?
P.S. I'm also wondering...maybe its wise that (if I take the job in Arizona) to take a part-time job at the VA Hospital right next door to where I would be working at. The following are the benefits I see in getting a Part Time job at the VA Hospital:: 1) An easier "soft way" to get back in the Hospital Setting. It's been about 3 years since working in the ER (oversees) but they may be more willing to take a chance on me if I go part-time to ease my way back into it. 2) More job security. Federal jobs seem more secure than state jobs (it seems anyway) 3) Higher pay 4) And a job that you can easily move anywhere in the US. I heard on another thread here that (at VA Hospitals anyway) you can are pretty much be marketable to work at any VA Hospital in the country once you work at a VA Hospital in Arizona or any other major state. Is this wrong thinking Ms. Bruiser ?

Can you Negotiate Salary or Relocation with Arizona State Veterans Jobs?
So...long term is better to work for a VA Hospital in Arizona or VA Home? Or does it really matter as they are all run under the same umbrella? I thought the VA Home and the VA Hospital were all under the State...correct ? Just wanted to make sure :***: Thats a negative that $30.85 is the cap....here in the midwest the VA Home you go "through steps" like you say. In looking at the payscale.....I have many "steps" I can go through if I stay. The only problem is that the state I'm in is going broke.....and I rather be in Arizona than in this state should crap hit the fan...and I'm stuck in this state (lol...). P.S. Hope you understand what I'm saying as an economic title-wave could happen in this country very soon....and would hate to feel stuck here in the midwest. At least a job in AZ could be a vehicle to get us out here.

Any Arizona Nursing Agencies Offer Housing Vouchers?
Actually housing vouchers for rent. For example, a friend of mine on Indian Reservation said they offer discounted housing as part of their compensation package. Knowing that this type of nursing benefit just doesn't come from just "ICU or OR" jobs...I thought there would be other jobs that offer this type of benefit in their compensation packages. Thoughts/Opinions?

Can you Negotiate Salary or Relocation with Arizona State Veterans Jobs?
Everyone has good intentions here so no worries. I did have a question though.... Does state run VA's have a graduated pay increase? For example...here in the Midwest....we get 3% increases on our gross pay every year and it caps out around $7k per month base pay (not including shift differential and overtime). The reason I ask is I noticed on the State of Arizona....the pay range was $25-$30.85......so does that mean it caps at $30.85....or is that the range ($25-$30.85)in which your STARTING pay will sit at (depending on experience)? Thoughts/Opinions? P.S. Thanks all for contributing....we all have the best intentions and I'm glad we all respect each other :)
