Hi I sent you an email.

Specializes in Neuro ICU.

Hey guys,

I would appreciate some feedback. I'm looking to apply for the 2025 fall cycle and currently work on a neuro ICU at a large hospital (no trauma designation). However, next week I have an interview at a smaller 221 bed hospital at a level 2 trauma 12-bed CVICU. Current floor is 28 beds ICU/12 bed intermediate. I've always wanted to get into CVICU to diverse my experience. Do you guys think making the switch would be beneficial? Thank you!

I officially accepted my seat for the August 2024 start date! Super excited for this journey!

My stats when I applied:
Experience: 1.4 years (Neuro ICU)
GPA: 3.44 overall
Certification: CCRN & CSRN
Extras: ICU Council , preceptor to nursing students, community volunteer work

Timeline:
Submitted to Nursing CAS on Jan 31
Call for interview 2/12
Interviewed 3/4
Accepted 3/6

Good luck to everyone! Remember to review CCRN material, review medications you use in your specialty, and just be you. Stay positive ❤️

I personally believe being at a larger hospital might allow for you to see a higher acuity. I have friends who work in smaller hospitals and their ICUs are similar to the stepdown unit in my hospital.
