Keiser opinions? Please help.

I am getting ready to start nursing school. I am considering going to Keiser University because it takes so so long to get into nursing school where I live. I can get in to Keiser faster meaning faster graduation. I have heard mixed things about this school. Could you tell me what you know about it or have heard?

I have not ever attended Keiser University. I did notice yesterday. on a ride from Charlotte County to Sea World Orlando, several of their branches. They were all built along either I75 or I4. That tells me one thing, they have money to build impressive new buildings, on some very expensive real estate. I don't know of their success rate in passing the NLEXC(?)

I do know one thing. I attended a community college and never regretted my choice.

I go to Keiser University just a little south of you, Melbourne. IT IS FABULOUS!! We have a 98% first time pass rate. The classes are set up so that, in your pre reqs, you are doing one class at a time. For example, for 4 weeks you will have AP I and no other class. Then off to 4 weeks of another class.

KEISER, if you will look this over, it shows the overview of the nursing program as well as the classes you will be taking. IF you don't have the classes at the bottom of this link, it will take you 22 months TOTAL to get your Associates in Science for Nursing. IF you do have all the pre reqs, then the program will take you 18 months to complete the nursing core.

Keiser is looking for students who can be focused and study a lot of information in a short amount of time, so you will take 2 tests. They are not hard, per se, the latter test you take, the NET, a study guide is available.

As for wait lists, they do not exist. I applied in Jan this year and started in April. When you are accepted into the nursing program you are given a start date. They start every 4 months here.

I go to Keiser in Sarasota, I went there for the same reason. I am almost done and have to say I would not recommend it to anyone... We can't seem to keep teachers and its always a jumbled mess.

Keiser is way too expensive for an ASN, might as well go to University of Miami where you will pay the same thing, and get a BSN degree

when you look at the NCLEX pass rate statistics, Keiser is not that great, last time I saw the statistics (few weeks ago) they were at 50% and only the Melbourne campus was accredited, and not the other branches.

city college has a program as well, I do not remember their statistics.

but I would never pay that much $30K for an Associates in nursing!!!

I graduated now, and have passed my NCLEX, (with only 75 questions as well). Keiser does have an NLCEX success program in place now due to a new director, it is a pain in the butt although it is a good thing. Keiser is expensive but is much better than the local school MCC, the hospitals HATE MCC grads....

what's wrong with MCC grads??

I was accepted there,but then got accepted to broward community college- otherwise i would of moved to go to that school.

I would be careful of private schools such as Keiser. First of all you are paying way too much for an education that isnt even respected by many hospitals. They are like nursing mills who churn out nurses who often have trouble passing the NCLEX and then functioning on their own. My preceptor was telling me how there is a significant difference between Keiser graduates in our area and graduates from other schools. Keiser grads have made it on the list that HR doesnt like to hire. I told her I would be very upset if I paid all that money to go to school there and then was looked at as a less competent nurse. Just something to think about...this isnt the first time Ive heard this about them. Also keep in mind it isnt accredited so your credits wont transfer if u want to further your education.

That is COMPLETELY WRONG! I attend Melbourne campus. Not only are we accredited through SACS we are ALSO accredited through NLN. You should be very cautious of statements that you are NOT completely aware of. ALL other Keiser Nursing schools have accreditation through SACS and are conditionally approved through NLN. Once they have a certain number of nursing grads they will have FULL accreditation.

Yes, it is expensive but I don't have to wait 4 years on a wait list. I will graduate next year and I along with MANY OTHERS already have a job waiting on me. Keiser has A HIGH NCLEX pass rate.

Whoa you are wrong luv4nursing, I got my job in a CVICU stepdown because I went to Keiser (the private school and invested all that money). I work for a top 100 hospital (9 times running). Keiser is expensive and thats the real only draw back, the pass rates are fine (and in my area MCCs pass rates are terrible and the NLN is currently at the school investigating its accreditation and interviewing students.... hmmmm not so good) You really shouldn't speak about things you don't know about. I did preceptor work at another hospital that also has MCC students there and they will take a Keiser grad over and MCC grad anyday, heard that from HR and the clinical managers first hand... (Plus MCC uniforms are awful) ^_^ :nurse:

Sorry if I offended anyone. I dont mean to pass judgement on the graduates of the program, it just makes me mad that they charge so much for tuition and dont even prepare their students for the NCLEX properly. I just checked the pass rates and they are currently very low...ranging from 33% to the mid 70s. If Im paying that much for a nursing education, they had better have pass rates in the high 90s so I KNOW Im going to pass. Melbourne does have the highest rates, which makes sense bc they are the only campus that is NLN accredited.

At the hospital where I work, keiser students from the tampa campus have a bad reputation bc of some of the occurances on the floor when they have been here. You are right that the school as a whole shouldnt be judged like that, but if I were going to go to school and I was going to pay that much money, I would want the program to be highly thought of in the community.

Im sure its the same as Excelsior graduates, there are good ones and bad ones...but anytime there is a bad one, Im sure the first thing ppl would say was "well, they went to Excelsior, so...."

The OP was asking for opinions, and I gave mine...thats all.
