My advice would be that you may have to crawl before you walk. Now what I mean is that, you need to look at different programs at other schools, and the route you take. For example, there are a lot of adn programs out there. Not sure where you live, but most adn programs that I know of, just use your pre req gpa. So to start over on your gpa, you need to start over at a different school. I know a friend of mine, who like you goofed up when he was younger. When it came to applying for programs, he couldn't get in. so he started over at a different school, and so did his GPA! Ahhhh. If you are going to take classes over anyway, at least start fresh. You just can't ever get transfer credit, and who cares! once you give them a transcript, they will include old grades every time So just start as if you never attended before. Take the usual 5 pre reqs or so over at a completely new school, and start an adn program. Its not dishonest to do it, its a way to give a person a second chance. This way your new good grades won't be dragged down by you're past! And like those past experiences, were moving on! Get you're BSN at a later date, on your own time. Think about it., Keep your head up and don't get discouraged! You can do it!!!! Good luck!

Wow I must say, all of you are awesome to read from. I really needed to here other nurses and nursing student prospectives. I'm going to keep trying,I can't give up I've gotten this far right? So the colleges I'm applying to are Cuesta college San Luis Obispo, and Allan Hancock Santa Maria, both in California...well I live in Cali, so Cali schools are what I am looking at. My next question would be with what you guys know about me so far, are there any college suggestions you may have? And give me some input on what is needed to qualify and get in? All your advice is awesome, thanks guys, you rock!!!

This way your new good grades won't be dragged down by you're past!

I would be very careful taking this advice as a lot of nursing programs/BSN programs will ask for ALL previous transcripts and if you only give them the transcript from the school you did well at and they find out they can drop you from the program.

Most programs really care about your pre req grades, especially on the adn level. That's why 99.99% of nursing programs requires specific courses to get in. I'm not saying they won't look at the others, but they weigh heavily on the ones they require. Nursing is a science, that's why chem, a and p, are the deal breakers. I don't live in Cali, otherwise I could give you three adn programs where I live that care only about your pre req gpa, no matter how many other schools and classes you have taken.

But you just may get dropped because you didn't report that cooking or pottery class because lord knows that's required to be a nurse. My intention OP is to help you get in, not get you kicked out. As with everything else, take what You need and disregard the rest.

Two schools to apply to isn't a wide selection. After getting my first BS i applied to about 5 or 6 schools for my second degree to widen the likelihood of getting in (I had a 3.4 gpa but most nursing programs are tougher than that). Id say look at programs outside your area, maybe expand the search to programs within an hour or so from you now, or apply to slightly further schools and live closer to the school. Worst case, work for another year to save up money and then move to whatever school you get into.

If you tell a school you've never attended college before and withhold transcripts that have been asked of you, I'm concerned with your assertion that it isn't " dishonesty." It's flat out lying. In order to be given a second chance, the OTHER party makes the decision, not you. Shady ethics.

I agree, there are plenty of honest students that have tried at a school and not made it and reported their grades. If most people did what you recommended, we would have (not calling out anyone in particular) some of the worst and most ethically corrupted nurses out there. People cheating in the college career may lead them to cheat in real life, say at applying for jobs and lying about past work history, or working incorrectly. Im a little strong about this, but people shouldn't even mention the thought of with holding records.

Many schools will look at your most recent credits and determine a reasonable place for you. For instance, if you just took a full semester and were earning As and Bs they would see you as a candidate, however if you were taking say 3 classes and getting Cs and Ds, they wouldnt be as interested because they see little has changed and have doubts about keeping up with nursing. Time is helpful, some schools will be more reasonable to a student who comes back after a few years off, you just need to earn good grades to show them you want it. Telling them you want it with Cs isnt a way to do it.

Stephalump, Where in my post did you read withhold transcript? First, I said retake the classes, then I said to send them those transcripts. We've established that some schools want all your transcripts, and other schools want just recent pre req grades. Again, I know of schools that don't care what classes you took as long as your pre req GPA is good.

When my doctor asks me about my sexual history, I tell him about my spouse and exes, I WITHHOLD the fact that I was sexually abused as a child. Guess that makes me a down right dishonest liar right? (at least according to you anyway. )

I've applied to 4 schools and was accepted to all of them with interviews. Fortunate for me I made excellent grades, but I do have my BS in a non health discipline. Every advisor and admission counselor could care less about my bs transcript. Why? Because none of my pre requisite courses were on there. I took my a&p's, chems, Soc, psych, micro, nutrition, and org chem at the local community college. 3 out of 4 schools, didn't even evaluate them. The only school that wanted to see them was the accelerated BSN, and that was only to verify I had a bachelors. They only cared about my pre req gpa. Of course every school is different.

Again, I never told her to lie, withhold, cheat, or whatever. I told her how a friend of mine got in.

Its shady to read someones post and include words or make comments about things that I didn't write! Thanks for your two cents, but I didn't ask for it, so keep it!
