So many people recommend Kaplan. I want a book but would prefer a comprehensive book. Is it impossible to get the best of both worlds? I checked Kaplan's website and it seems like the NCLEX-RN book they have is just questions/rationales...so if I am looking for a comprehensive book what should I get? I was going to buy the Saunders but I am second guessing it now. Is it best to buy the Kaplan book for good questions and a comprehensive book to help with facts, etc? I have a few coupons about to expire but am having a hard time deciding!

Hey TessaMae...I did kaplan and loved it!!! can you do the whole course?? even if you do the online course, it would be well worth it....they give you videos that breakdown all the stuff we learned in nursing school and they also make things easier to remember, and they also give you qbank questions and trainers that help you identify areas of weakness....if you can only do the book (trust me, i know how expensive it is), i would still stick to Kaplans newest book....its purple i believe...it broke topics down into outline form and made it easy to follow! it didn't over load you with information!!! Saunders is what i used during my last semester of nursing and i also thought it was great but it goes into a lot of detail that you do not need to know! Overall, i loved my experience with Kaplan and i passed at 75 questions....as long as you follow their program, if you can do so, you would have great results!!! good luck regardless....study hard, but make sure you take time to relax as well!! ESPECIALLY the night before....i stopped studying by 4pm the night before...and even during the time i was studying i just reviewed lab values, etc...nothing Crazy!! hope this helped!
So Kaplans book does have content in it? The description online makes it sound like the Kaplan book is only questions and rationales and some test taking tips. I borrowed my friends Saunders last semester and felt like the content review part was ok but was hoping there was better out there. All the bookstores around me have the books sealed so you can't really tell whats inside which is a bummer!

The purple Kaplan strategies book does not have content in it. It has test taking strategies and some sample tests in it. It is a quick read as well. Sanders has a lot of content and I think has a chapter on test taking skills, but I felt it was just too much for me to handle (way too big). It also comes with a cd with over a few thousand questions on it. That's what I know of the two.. hope it can help you a little! You can also try googling "Nclex 3500" and just take their practice tests and read the rationales .. you can learn a lot of content just by doing that and it's free!
the kaplan book that i have that is Light purple is the kaplan Course book and that one has content!!! i also have that dark purple test taking strategy book...i found it not to be too helpful but thats just my opinion....! the Light purple book is what i read, its very thick, but now that i think about it...it is the "course book" so i don't know if you can buy it seperate.....so in that case, i would go with saunders because it is very informative and gives you a CD filled with questions! If you were going to take a course review then i would say Kaplan all the way!!! either way, im sure youll do fine!!!
So this light purple Kaplan book is something you get when you take the course through Kaplan? Bummer sounds like a great book. I ended up buying the Saunders today.
Yea it came with my course stuff but Saunders will be fine too!! i used that for three months during my last semester at school...that was our course book and what we studied from as a class to get ready for the NCLEX, and i know lots of classmates of mine that stuck to saunders and PASSED!!! so you'll be fine!!! I just added Kaplan to my studying because my parents were kind enough to pay for it, or else i would have just stuck to Saunders like lots of my classmates had to!!! Just study hard, and when you do the questions, i would def. read the rationals even if you got it right!! i found that to be helpful!!! Good luck hun!!! You'll be fine!!!
