Kaplan Question

I had a question about a nurse in a psych unit who answered the phone. The caller said that he was the spouse of the patient and wanted to know about the patient's condition. Then it asked which response was most appropriate?

I chose "cannot deny or confirm any patient's presence in this hospital" (which is waht I learned in school). But the correct answer was "patients are not allowed to use this phone. please call the patient's phone number directly" (the rationale was psych patients have reasonable access to telephones)

I probably would have picked that answer as well. However, I'm not surprised at the right answer. What did the rationale say?

The rationale said psychiatric patients do not lose their civil rights and have the right to reasonable phone access................

Yep. Shows the line of thinking used. But I would have chosen the same answer you did.

I chose the answer you did. Mostly because in another question, about the press coming in wanting to interview a patient, and the rationales was on the lines of don't confirm whether the patient is or is not there. I also didn't pick that option because the husband didn't ask to speak to his wife and that he just wanted to know her condition. There are gonna be some answers we just aren't gonna get...
