Kaplan Nursing entrance exam- 2nd time around!

Published

Hey guys! So I will be RE-taking the Kaplan Exam this Thursday and I am really nervous! I took it once before and totally bombed the science part. Not knowing then what i know now however, is there are certain topics that are going to be covered (A&P II) such as renal system, cardiovascular system, neurology, blood, homeostasis, etc. Any advice? I have studied my old power points my professor gave us this past spring semester. Has anyone had to take it the second time? If so, was it harder or were the questions generally the same?? :) just curious, because if i don't pass it this second time i cant start nursing school in the fall:(

I think advice for anyone taking a major exam would be to just study. I am not exactly sure how Kaplan nursing exams are but you have an idea. You have taken the test before so that gives a you a great advantage that you did not have the first time you took the test. Just study hard and believe in yourself.

I took that exam 3 times, the science part is just HARD. Study your physiology, but hopefully your school won't look too closely at the ind scores but the overall. Mine only counted the overall and the math section.

@Julesmama28, do you remember if the science part was broad or specific? like were the questions really in depth or just a simple understanding? I have been studying my butt off for it but i just don't think its good enough. i think im just really nervous:/

I tuck the Kaplan and was not happy with my score. I feel better knowing that others have retaken the Kaplan too. Makes me motivated to try again. I felt so bad when I got my scores that I really thought about quitting nursing all together. But I will try again:) keep up with the post. It really helps motivate.

When I took the Kaplan, I scored a 25% on the science portion! I hadn't taken any of my pre-reqs yet and was completely lost. My school only looked at the math and reading scores, so I still got accepted. Have you gotten the Kaplan study guide book? There is a large section on science as will as practice questions and 2 full practice tests.

I have been looking for the Kaplan study guide. The school where I tuck my test they said no study guide was available. So I used my old A&P book to study. If you have the Kaplan study guide edition or ISBN# that would be awesome. I seen some Kaplan books on Amazon but not sure what book is best. I scored a 75 on the science part but need to brush up on my grammar and math. Thats the part I really struggled with So I plan to retake my Kaplan in January to apply for the fall semester at NAU Tucson. NAU looks at the science, reading, math and grammar to get accepted I need a 70 overall and a 60 on science. But since its competitive I really want to make sure I get up in the high 80s or 90 if possible. So I can get in the first attempt. Since I have taken the Kaplan I do feel its possible just need to study hard. So I really hope to do well the 2nd time!:)

I took the Kaplan about a month ago, & I felt that the actual Kaplan study guide wasn't very useful for the test.. I used a book put out by NLN and the math was almost exactly the same as the math on the test-- lots of ratios, proportions, & percentages.. I actually studied science the most, & ended doing the worst on the science part! I felt like the science was almost like critical thinking, & then there would be some specifics like questions about tissues.. Its a hard test to study for, but I think reviewing a&p and practicing how to set up math problems is def helpful-- the Kaplan guide has a lot more stuff than is actually found on the test, which can make it overwhelming.. There was no chemistry on my test.. Good luck(-:

Thank you, any information definitely helps! I hope the 2nd time around I score better. I plan to retake in January. So I have plenty of time to study all I can.

How did you do today????

Hey yall! I am actually new to this website. I was searching for online guides or tools that were available and came upon this website. I just skimmed through yall's convo...I just took the TEAS V Exam again at my college... and again, I failed it. I am not too sure what my issue is, but this entrance exam is the only exam holding me back from nursing. To give yall a little background (if you want to keep reading) I graduated with an Assoc. in Bus. M & A, bought a house at an early age, then decided to go back to school two years ago to begin a new career in hopes of becoming a nurse one day. Well.. that is all going to *** in a hand basket. I am so disappointed, frustrated, and angry that I can not pass a simple, high-school, SAT exam. It was a long time ago that I took all those basic subjects. I am considering on dropping out due to the only task blocking me from applying/entering is this awesome TEAS V Entrance Exam for my nursing program at my school. I hope all of you are doing well. I wish and hope for the best of yall in succeeding in all your new, fun, and interesting careers. Good luck.

Are the questions the same the second time??
