Kaplan college in San Diego RN program

Published

Hi, I will be starting the RN program with Kaplan as soon as we relocate. My husband's in the Military so the wait lists at other colleges turned me away from them.

Do any of you go to Kaplan? If so, how did it work out for the student loans and stuff , I am confused. It seems as if tuition is around 45000 for the couple years of the program. I am eligible for the pell grant and the military grant of 3000 per year. But would the loans be able to cover everything else since it's a vocational school more than a traditional college? Thanks!

I have a question with the Background and Drugscreen.

Rep. insisted that I do it today online but I can't do it while at work. So I did the online background check application an hour ago (11pm) but how about the drugscreen (urine sample), do I have to do it tomorrow (July 15) to still be in the early application?

My rep gave me a time frame to get it done but not like today or anything. In fact, I was told to enjoy my weekend! The drug screen and background check have to be within 60 days from our class start date...it's more than 60 today...I wonder what the sense of urgency is all about. Hmmm....different reps with different instructions...scary. I think you're already in the early application group:D

The yellow paper with instructions said "no more than 2 months prior to the start date and before application deadline." Maybe that's why she wanted me do it July 14th because its exactly two months before Sept. 14th (start date) and 1 day before "early" application deadline of July 15. Oh well, she knows I'm working full time. I can't just drop everything just so I can give some urine sample. I'll just call her tomorrow.

Hi Future Nurses-

I got a call on Thursday at lunchtime, that I was accepted also!! I have 5 yrs experience as an MA, DEXA tech, etc. I only got an 82.7% on the TEAS, the second time. My rep said to improve my math and science scores and I did. I wonder how many of us made it for the early deadline and got in? I was expecting a call after August 1st, the last deadline. I was under the impression that the background check and drug test had to be after July 15th but before the orientation. I was set up with a meeting with the Director of Nursing for Aug 22. My rep said I will be getting a packet in the mail. Anyone know if Kaplan can help get private loans for their students, since we won't be able to work very much? I guess I'll have to wait to meet with financial aid. Getting late, gotta hit the hay! Congrats all future nurses! :lol2:

goodjob SandiegoWannaB! what time did you pick to meet the DON? i picked 10 am on aug. 22 also. :yeah:

Thanks engnr2RN! I am meeting with the DON on Aug 22nd at 4:00. I am gonna just get off early from work. I have read that if the pre-req's are done, then you either get off early or you come in later, any truth to that? Are you working at all engnr2RN? I am gonna probably only work 10 hrs a wk, if even that many! Can't wait for this packet in the mail from the rep. Let me know if you get info in that packet. WannaB

I'm planning to quit my job before school starts. My current job doesn't allow part timers. But depending on the schedule (and the difficulty of the courses) if I'll have spare time then I could work in some retail stores even as night stockers.

I don't know why she called that a packet when its just a piece of paper which is a generic letter they send to those who are conditionally accepted for ADN. She didn't even write my name on the blank space at the top:

"Dear ___________," :uhoh3:

i got the packet, I thought the letter was the "packet" the rep was talking about. The packet is for Financial aid.

I'm in!!! See you guys in September c/o 2013!!!!

You guys are going to be in debt up to your eyeballs and are not going to be able to find a job. Just a heads up. Go anywhere else - run.

Hello BeanTrees. Are you speaking from personal experience?

I'm speaking from a place of knowing several people who decided to go Kaplan and have told me to warn others of the school.

I'm sorry but I've read this whole thread front to end and end to front and this is actually the first negative thing I've seen. That is a really bold statement to make, do you have any evidence to back it up? if so, please tell us everything you know so we may be out of ignorance.
