Kaiser NorCal Nurse Residency Cohort 9 July 2024

Updated:   Published

Hi guys! Just wanted to make this for those who are applying to Cohort 9 for Kaiser New Grad Residency!

I have my NCLEX scheduled for a day after the 2/12 deadline. I wrote in Q55 that I tried to change it, but no test sites near me had any availability. Hoping its still OK

Hi,

Thank you OP for creating this thread.  I have also applied to cohort 9.  Received & filled out the snapshot yesterday.  Choices were;

  1. East bay
  2. Solano

I have my license already, along with BLS, ACLS, EKG, NIHSS, and a couple other ED needed certificates.  ED is where my heart is, so my question is if one gets accepted into this program, is there an option after the 6 month period to (bid or transfer) to another unit?  Or does that person have to complete the entire 12 months on medsurg/tele units?

  • Does anyone know how the point system works?  I know they take a GPA into consideration as well right?

I have a ED trauma position offer right now, but I'm really wanting to try for cohort 9.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

xoxo

Honestly they probably will deny this request.  The reason is because my co-worker was denied. But lets hope they changed their criteria, so that you can apply!

Hey Tylenol,

This is what I remember them saying: you can potentially transfer out of medsurg/tele before the year is up - but the bidding is based on seniority and availability, so there's no guarantee.  Additionally, and they weren't able to really speak to this, but ED is a separate entity (It's TPMG, not KP) and they have their own new-grad programs.  I did an internship in a Kaiser ED, and they had a small cohort of new grads for the first time last year.  But so far they are not doing it again this year, at that location at least.

As far as I know, although they are separate entities, this residency is still a pathway to ED.  Re GPA, I'm not sure they score a 3.9 differently from a 3.8 - the snapshot had ranges.

Congrats on your ED/trauma offer! Very exciting.

It's on the snapshot.. the highest section for GPA was from 3.6-4.0.

So after 6 months, you can start to bidding any position within Kaiser.. however, if you want to get into any specialties such ICU, you need to apply their 6 months training program too.

And YES! I finished my NCLEX in 80 mins, shut down at 85... hoping for good result... and yeah, the pearson trick doesnt work at the moment! haha

Has anyone been through this process before?

Hi does anyone know where I can take an EKG class, the ones that I have been seeing are for 3 months. Also, anyone else who hasn't received a snapshot yet:? do you think that not submitting a cover letter could hurt my chances?

I haven't filled out my career snapshot yet. Do you guys think it would be important to have your nursing portfolio? I don't have one. What is exactly a nursing portfolio?

Hi! — I have not submitted mine either... do we have to upload documents on the snap shot — like a portfolio? (What ever that is)
