Hi guys! Just wanted to make this for those who are applying to Cohort 9 for Kaiser New Grad Residency!
ramsey hsu said:Hello Everyone! I recently got hired into Cohort 8 and projected to start in March. The process is quite simply, from the comments I read from this thread, I see that you guys are in the career snapshot section.
Make sure you submitted your Letter of Rec, BLS, ACLS, RN License (if you have it) Resume, and Cover Letter (Highly Recommended) onto the job application.
They value you having have done clinical rotations /externships/capstone at their facilities. As for the EKG certification, you don't need to have it to apply to KP, but you do need to have it before your start date if you get hired.
In terms of choosing locations, for NorCal for the most part. I would suggest choosing a group of hospitals instead of just a single one to improve your chances of landing an interview.
I did not submit a nursing portfolio, because I don't know how to even do a nursing portfolio but you can Google search how to combine one together.
Let me know if you guys have any more questions! good luck in landing an interview!
Thank you so much for your help. Do you remember the timeline of when you were invited to interview? Also, can you note any elements that made you a competitive candidate? I am thinking of what I can improve for future applications, in case.

Hello Dina!
Thank you for your question! From the looks of things, I think they're taking longer on the application process for the Summer cohort. I received my interview invite like 2-3 days after submitting my career snapshot. I interviewed on 11/12 and heard back on like 12/4, so about 2 weeks waiting time.
As per your quesiton on what made me a competitive candidate, I can't really say because IDK how they decide who to interview and who not to interview. But from me inferring, I think having a high nursing GPA helps you, internal applicants (they prioritize them first in comparison to external applicant). I had no experience working in a hospital at kaiser or anywhere. Excluding my clinical rotations aside. I only had retail experience that counts as customer service and people skills in a sense.
Also for the presentation, I think it's critical you pick don't a question from each category that is too difficult to answer on your presentation which may led you from running out of time (this is individually based). Pick questions that you can answer smoothly and easily while showing you as a person. Talk about your struggles in nursing school and how you overcome that and memorable experiences during your rotations if any and etc..
Hope this helps!
