Just took the NCLEX-RN exam 2/6/13

I took the NCLEX today and after a 157 question test, I got the "good" pop-up on the Pearson Vue Website.

What I did to study...

My university utilized ATI, and I always had a level 2 or 1 score on those tests (awful score, I know) and also we were given the option to take an NCLEX prep course offered as a class where we had to complete 1500 questions in order to pass.

I used these books for the class and once I graduated:

  1. Davis's Q&A for the NCLEX-RN Examination / Edition 1by Kathleen Ohman, Ohman. (This is really good for alternate type questions and review) found on Half.com for a pretty decent price.
  2. Practice Questions for NCLEX-RN / Edition 1by Donna F. Gauwitz. (This was HARD. Awesome for review, but I felt like NCLEX was easier than this book) also found on half.com.
  3. Kaplan NCLEX-RN 2012-2013 Strategies, Practice, and Review WITH CD-ROM (my fav).

I enrolled in the Kaplan course because I was so nervous, and I completed all question trainers, about 700 questions from the q bank, completed about 500 questions with the other books I had, and reviewed every single rationale! Reviewing the stuff you don't understand I felt is so important! I would DEFINITELY review contact precautions, know at least major classes of the medications, EKG rhythm strips, practice calculations, lab values, nursing process, Maslow's, Ericksons stages.

Be confident!!! Stay positive! Think safety! That's why we are testing right? To determine if we are safe. If your computer doesn't shut off at 75 questions you are doing ok! You are still in the game! Try your best! Practice practice practice!!!! You will pass the NCLEX RN!

i LOVED kAPLEN!

If you are just looking for questions Ohman because the book was just questions. I think about 1300 total.

If you are thinking of doing the Kaplan review like online then I would totally go with that!! They break down the test, teach you how to answer questions. its really nice in that way. The little purple Kaplan book you can buy at Barnes and Noble explains everything also, gives you mini practice tests, then a comprehensive test (265) questions, and a cd rom with another 160 questions. so not as many questions but I loved Kaplan! I thought it was set up like the test the most! hope that helps! GOOD LUCK!
