Hi everyone! I am brand new to this forum and wanted to introduce myself. My name is Carol and I am a nursing student from CA who just took the NCLEX. I am really paranoid that I did not pass. I had 75 questions that I thought were difficult. I noticed that I got multiple questions regarding Infection Control and prioritizing which patient you would see first. In everyone's experience, do you think this indicates anything? I think there's a strong chance I failed miserably if they repeatedly asked me about a topic. Does anyone know how long I have to wait before I retake the test? Please tell me I'm not a complete failure!!!
I start working next Monday as a new grad with my IP. I'm extremely sad and embarrassed about the test. Does anyone have any experience (either yourself or someone you know) regarding a failed NCLEX? I would really appreciate any advice or any words of wisdom anyone can give.
Thank you.

I completed an LVN program in California in October '05, took NCLEX on December 28, and received my passing results via mail on January 9.
Nobody walks out of the test center feeling that they passed. If you just took NCLEX, the best thing to do is relax and wait for your result. :)
Good luck to you.
Hi Commuter,
Thanks for the kind words of comfort. I hope I'll be as successful with the exam as you were!

If you got lots of prioritization questions then it looks good ...
How to cope with those days in between taking NCLEX and seeing your result -- hibernate, take on a project that takes all of your concentation, or drink heavily... :rotfl:

I also just took my exam today, and I got the same questions. Lot's of priority questions. My test cut off at 85, and I too am very worried. At the same time though I still feel like I don't have a clue how I done. It's good to know that California is quick about the results. just know your not alone I feel the very same way. Good Luck to the both of us!!

This is very bizarre...I too took the NCLEX today and got tons of prioritizing questions. One right after another. And I also got a lot of infection control, too. Mine shut off at 75 questions and I felt pretty good until my friend said that the test will re-ask questions on topics you missed. Anyone know if this is true??

Hi FlaRN,
Yes, I have heard the same thing. Basically with computer adaptive tests, such as NCLEX, they will find a topic you are weak on and re-ask question to determine your competency. However, I don't know how many is 'too many' and when the computer deems you competent or not.
There is also a chance that some of those questions are the experimental ones that are included in the test. But this is just a guess. Is anyone familiar with the experimental questions?
Let's just hang in there and pray for the best results! Congrats on getting it done though!

I dont think that is anything to worry about. I just attended a week long NCLEX review course and on the last day they went over several "myths" about the NCLEX. One of the myths was that the computer figures out your weak areas and you get more questions in that area. That is not true. Also, 15 questions are pilot questions - so some of the questions you had on the same topic might not have even counted. Another myth they discussed was that if you get the last question right/wrong it determines whether you pass/fail. A lot of priority questions is a good thing since these are supposed to be the higher level questions. So relax, and good luck to you. I will be testing at the end of the month.

I just took my NCLEX two weeks ago and got the same type of questions and the same amount (75). I was convinced I failed, but I passed! Hope you did, too!!
Hi FutureRN2005,
Thanks for all the helpful info you got from your review course regarding the myths! Quick questions - was the myth you discussed regarding the last question determining pass/fail a correct myth? Or is it false? I had a pretty easy question as my last one regarding Basic Life Support and I'm fairly certain I answered it correctly. Did your review course say that would be a more likely chance of passing? Couldn't the last question also be a pilot question? THanks!! =)

The last question determining whether you pass/fail was also a myth. Because this can also be one of the pilot questions and not even count. The thing they emphasized to us was that you must get more questions right than wrong to pass. Good luck to you.:)

I took the NCLEX on Tuesday 1/24 in 75 questions, don't remember very many of the questions that I had but I do remember several on infection control, a few in priortizing and had no alternative items. I just knew that I had failed. My friend that took it on the same day called at 5a.m. and said that our state board had updated their online licensure search. We both had passed. As a matter of fact...21 out of my class have tested and all passed in 75 questions except for three who passed at 78, 107, and 110. So I belive that if you got the type of questions that you did and finished with 75 then surely you passed. I will think positive thoughts for you.
