Thank you 😊

Why would your facility not supply those items? Not the stethoscope, but the other things.

New job? First job?

Is it just because you wanted your own? I admit I wish I owned one of those little finger oximeters you wear around your neck.

Your enthusiasm makes me smile. I hope it's everything you imagined it would be.

I'll be starting home health next week and yes this will be my first job as a nurse. So yes I am trying to over prepare myself with the tools I wish I had while I had clinicals. I hated having to wait to use the thermometer or the pulse ox.😅

Those little pulse ox monitors are in numerous catalogues (and on-line). I've seen prices as low as $39.99.

Snazzy!

I have the cardiology III. I bought the Littman electronic steth beforehand which is useful in very noisy environments but it picks up ALL sound and it's heavy.

The Cardiology III is absolutely superior, IMO.

A CNA stole it from me, sadly. That *expletive* stole $20 from my resident, as well! He abandoned the facility mid-shift and he's the 3rd thief that I've worked with. I blame the facility for not doing background checks. If I ever see that boy again, we're going to have 'serious misunderstanding'.

So, keep track of your things, especially, if you have EXPENSIVE nursing equipment.

-- It's easy to get sidetracked. I tend to forget my equipment in pt rooms. This is how my stethoscope was stolen. Keep things in your cart. People sell Littman's. Doesn't matter if it's been engraved.

-- Your coworkers will probably be trying to borrow your stuff. LOL Mine do. I also have a hospital-grade Exergen temporal thermometer. My preceptor, an older nurse, had one and I salivated all over it -- because it's just the coolest stethoscope ever. It's even cool 'looking'. So, I bought one myself. It's wonderful. It's accurate. EVERYONE laughs at me calling me 'the doctor but they're quick to want to borrow it for THEIR assessments/monitoring. "You still have that, uh...thermometer?"

I work baylor weekends. As I'm leaving, night-shift asks to use my thermometer every Saturday night. They don't do that to anyone else.

They have equipment, yeah. They just want to use MY stuff. LOL Sometimes, people actually don't have equipment. Like, I don't think my RN (supv) even owns a stethoscope...or a thermometer.

(...or bloop pressure cuff).

Seriously.

Be careful in home health often you are required to use the calibrated DME supplied pulse oximetry if doing shift work otherwise the agency will supply. Don't take a pulse ox in private duty without a physician order. A coworker decided to to pulse ox on all the children until she recorded a reading of 80% using her own equipment on a child with only seizure precaution orders. No orders to address the low sat. Personal equipment was not intended for pediatrics or professional use and the chart was flagged by QA &

Insurance. Don't create issues.

Some people make it an absolute gospel rule NOT to loan out any of their equip. If it gets dropped, lost or stolen, you're SOL.

I've even dropped my own and had to replace item (nobody else's fault). I have never bought a very expensive scope just for the fear of losing it somehow. I found that with caring for MY scope (nobody else using it) it doesn't get abused and the acoustics stay fine. I don't buy cheapies, just a 'nice' scope does fine.
