Just need a little reassurance

I'm probably just over reacting, but was still a little scared. 2 days ago we took our 1st test at Kaplan to see where we are at and what we need to study. I have been practicing questions well before we started Kaplan, and I thought I was doing very well with them. Today I got the results and I said that if I were to take the NCLEX I would fail. I realized that Kaplan just started and the test doesn't mean anything, but I wanted to know if there was anyone out there with the same experience and went on to pass the boards.

My friend took the Kaplan Readiness test & got an 83% & failed NCLEX. Another friend took it & got a 65% & passed the NCLEX. The difference b/t the 2 ladies is that one (the 65% one) consistently did practice questions, & the other only did the questions that came with our Kaplan online review, which was something like 1200 or so. I think someone here posted something about scoring low on practice tests & they said they passed NCLEX the first time. When I graduated I was taking practice tests & BOMBING them like mad. I talked to a classmate & told her my scores & she said, "Oh honey, that's normal. I'm getting the same scores. This stuff is a review for us, & some of it we have never seen, or haven't seen in a long time." She passed NCLEX, I did not. But, my studying was almost nonexistent also, as opposed to hers. Take it easy.

Hi ckh23, :p

I'm glad you brought this up.

I am going to be taking the kaplan class session starting June 6th. I'm probably going to take these test results the most seriously since it's supposed to be the closest thing to the nclex. Are you just doing an personal online class, or are you taking the review classes with an educator?

Do you know when you are taking the nclex? I'll probably be able to share your misery here in about a week when I find out how badly I did on the Kaplan pretest.

Good luck to you!!

Hey Kitty-MayRN,

I scheduled to take the boards June 22. I was provided a little relief from the instructor at Kaplan and talking with other people. Apparently I'm not the only who didn't pass the first test. The instructor said that they just use it as a base line and for us to use as a study guide. It breaks down the area's that you did well in or not so well. My instructor said that the tests that really count are at the end of the course, because then you can apply what they have taught. So I guess we'll see.
