I am in Jacksonville, FL. I graduated 9 years ago and just decided to take my nursing exam. I passed !!!!!! My problem is I have no nursing experience. How do I find a job? Does anyone have any suggestions? I appreciate any advice.

You may want to think about taking a re-entry course. 9 years is a long time to be away from the floor........

A re-entry course sounds like the way to go. You did not mention whether you are an RN or LPN. Around here where I live, they offer an RN refresher course through a local community college.

Congratulations on successfully passing your exam. :balloons: :biggringi :yelclap: :yeah: :smiley_aa

I am an RN. Do you think I need a refreasher course to get a job? Would I then just list it on my resume?

Specializes in Day Surgery/Infusion/ED.

You definitely need a refresher course. So much has changed in that time. Just because you passed NCLEX (congrats) doesn't mean that you're ready to jump back into nursing after 9 years.

Please find a refresher course. Absolutely list it on your resume. Be prepared to be asked why you waited 9 years to take NCLEX. There may very well be a good reason, but the people who interview you are going to want to know why.

Definitely go the route of the refresher course, it will also open more doors for you. You will be getting clinical experience with some facilities in your area.

Things have changed considerably in the past 9 or 10 years, more than you could possilby even imagine.

and congratulations on getting thru the exam.:balloons:

The course would probably help you feel confident and you would meet potential employers. Congratulations on passing. What made you do it now? What kept you from doing it sooner, if you don't mind sharing?

Refresher course it is I will definately look into it. the reason I didn't do it sooner was that I got a pretty high level job in insurance which paid alot more than nursing.

The reason I am going back into nursing is that I have had it with the insurance industry. There is definately a glass ceiling for women and all the things you hear about in the commercials is true. They are all about making the money. They are a really unethical bunch. I am hoping that nursing will at least give me more options.
