Just interviewed for PT dialysis position

Hi everyone, I just interviewed for a part time dialysis position today. It is 10 hour shifts, 2-3 days per week. It is a hospital affiliated, chronic out-patient dialysis center. Looking for some feedback:). I'm currently working on a med/surg unit (12.5 hour shifts). How would you compare dialysis nursing to hospital nursing? Should I stay in a position where the work atmosphere is chaotic and exhausting and my co-workers are difficult, just because it is what I know? Should I switch to dialysis? I don't mind being busy, but I hate being completely overwhelmed. Lately, when I leave work, I feel traumatized:crying2:. Any feedback appreciated:heartbeat.

Doesn't sound like a bad deal..and if you don't like dialysis you can always go back to the floor.

Dialysis is more organized, but can be chaotic at times. It is organized chaos if that makes sense. You know the patients, you know the routine. When you first learn it is a bit overwhelming but my company does an excellent training program. Sounds like you might like it. It is very busy all the time, but not as chaotic as the hospital. I felt like on the floor at the hospital I was all over the place. In dialysis there is a lot to learn but it is interesting and you can focus on one type of care. The patients have similar comorbidities. It is more routine.

I am in the same situation. Long stressful days on med-surg. Love reading these posts. Looking to switch to dyalisis next spring. Checking into homehealth also though.
