Just got a 37/100 on Micro Practice Exam :..(

I started studying 1/3/14, I really only studied Intro (5%) and Bio of Microorganisms (25%) so far I haven't touched on Bio of Infectious Diseases (25%), Control of Microorganisms or Disease(15%), Resistence and the Immune System(20%) or Environmental, Food and Industrial Micro(10%). Now that I think about it being that I only studied 30% of the material, a 37/100 is not too bad right? I cant help but feel discouraged right now. Im about to quit Bio of Microorganisms and skip over to Bio of Infectious Disease. I test on the 28th. I might be rescheduling to February now.

Ive been studying between 5 and 12 hours a day. With maybe 4 days off since 1/3/14 (got discouraged thought I wouldn't be affording the exams as fast as I wanted but fortunately I developed a plan) Please share your opinions and feedback. Give it to me straight, no sugar coating. Ive been using the Tortora text, SG101 and Vangonotes but I only listened to chapter 4 so far. I have microbiology demystified, haven't touched that yet either.

Oh my hod Tasha thank you! That is really inspiring! I will listen to them everyday now! I aldo havr microbiology demystified I considered nit using it anymoee but now I will even if I have to reschedule. I really want all A's! I read thst clep grades don't factor into your Excelsior gpa did I hear right? Or is that only when transferring creds? Thanks so much! Thank you everyone!!

If you are taking the Excelsior Microbiology exam then YES you will get a LETTER grade factored in for GPA purposes. If you are taking a gen ed that's a "CLEP" exam then you will only get a pass/fail on your transcript for that course.

Well you still need to pass the exams but if you are wanting gpa standings I'd take online courses and ECE exams instead for letter grades.

Tasha, I really don't think I plan on taking courses, I really don't want to but I see how that would be better and yes I plan on passing the clep exams just not going to go crazy ;). I think next year or whichever year I get an icu job I will work on science classes at my cc. Thankss

Totally understood. If you plan on any graduate education though you will want to be sure you have a solid GPA though. :)

Tasha, what should I do then, I haven't been managing my money well, courses are double the price at excelsior right? The longer it takes to become an Rn the less icu experience I will have. If I didn't feel I'm a great self studier I would definitely without a doubt do the courses even if it takes a little longer. Do you know if I can take a course for a particular exam or is it all or nothing? For example I hear ls2 is murder.

You get letter grades for Excelsior challenge exams AND the nursing courses. It's the CLEP exams that are pass fail. For the nursing credits it's challenge exam or online course.

You can take either a nursing online course or the nursing challenge exam, both receive a grade that counts towards your GPA The courses started last year, previously it was challenge exams only. The courses are about $1300 whereas the exams are around $400. The difference is the exam is one shot at a grade, the class you have tests& assignments throughout the class. Everyone takes the 2-part FCCA as an online class.

I didn't even realize it was 1300 per course. I couldnt if I wanted to. Unless I'd be doing this for years!

If you are eligible, financial aide can be used if you take 2 classes.
