Just got back from taking the TEAS (long)

My school wants you to score over the 50th percentile which I did so I am happy about that. However, I did not score very well on the math section. I was surprised because I thought I'd been focusing my attention on the math during study time, but apparently not. My overall score for the test was 78%. I did not use the ATI study guide, but I did study like crazy using some of the other testing books. Much of the math I had not done in over 16 years!!! I purchased one of the ATI practice exams for $27 which I have to say, save your money! I didn't find it helpful at all. The practice exam was way easier than the actual test. The administrator at my school did remark that I'd passed without even looking at the study manual.

My school's admission committee will not be meeting again until September 21 so I won't know until sometime after that if I will be granted an interview. I am really worried because of my math score. The test administrator kept reassuring me that my grades were good and that "everyone does poorly on the metric conversions".

For those of you taking the TEAS, make sure you know metric conversions (ALL OF THEM) as well as permutations. In my opinion you cannot study for the science. It is just too broad. There was only one A&P question and it involved looking at a drawing and identifying the pancreas. The english & reading were easy I thought. I was in the 99th percentile for both. I can't really think of anything else. If you can get the study guide then do so. I waited too long and found I could only find the guide online, but it was too late by that time. Good luck to everyone waiting to take entrance exams!

I took the TEAS test last week. Although I did well on the test, I'm not a fan of standardized tests. The math questions were mostly metric conversions, algebra, fractions and decimals. The science was really broad and in no way did it seem that it could gauge your knowledge of A&P, Chem or Physics. The reading comprehension, spelling and grammer were pretty basic.

I think the only part you can review is the math. It's all concepts you already know, but probably haven't used in a while...ex. dividing fractions, multiplying ratios or algebraic equations, etc.

Good luck on the tests. I think it's about 3.5 hours long, so if you can, bring a granola bar and take breaks if allowed.

I took the test on Saturday. I only scored 77.6 on it. I scored well in everything but Math too. I was disappointed because I am actually really good at math, but I didn't review for the test at all. The school where I applied just started administering it this year so I didn't know I was going to have to take it until about four days before. I ranked 71 percent nation but only 55% at school where I applied, hopefully it's good enough.

Specializes in ER.

I took Teas in January. Our program only admitted those that scored 85% and up. I think that some programs don't look at it as closely though.

Okay I'm a little bit worried about the TEAS - specifically in the math area. I'm really good at math - I passed the AP Calculus AB exam 4 years ago, but I haven't touched it at all since then. Should I take some classes to refresh my memory? Maybe start at Intermediate Algebra and work up from there? What would you do? I still have a year before I'm eligible to apply for the nursing program.

It certaintly couldn't hurt to take a brush up math course since you still have a little while before applying to nursing school. One word of caution is that much of the math on the TEAS was basic. I concentrated on the more advanced algebra & geometry, but the part I scored the lowest on was ratios.
