I have a bachelors degree in an unrelated field and I've been busting my butt working since I graduated college three years ago. I just started a new job last week and today I found out that I got into the practical nursing program I applied for months ago. In order to complete the program I'll have to stop working and attend school full time. I've heard so many stories about people flunking out or getting burnt out that now I'm nervous and doubting myself. I've scared myself since I'm leaving my livelihood to pursue this goal. Does anyone have any tips on how to succeed in the program or advice on what to expect? I'm also nervous because its been three years since I've been in a classroom.

Can you afford to quit and go back to school full time? If you can and nursing is your passion, then my advice is to go for it! Please don't let your nerves or self doubt get the best of you. You CAN do it!!

Why do you have to quit working? I'm finishing up the first semester of my LPN program and have worked full time, with no plan to change that. I have a family, and so really no choice.
Thanks, I've heard soo many horror stories that I guess I scared myself!
Because the classes for the program are only offered during the daytime.

Most of them are. Can you work at night? That's what I'm going to have to do.

If you go into the program, nursing will one day be your livelihood, and that's a pretty great thought, right?
Congrats on making it in! :)
No, I have a two year old that I have to take care of and a husband that works night shift as a police officer.
Yes, that's the upside of it all..and thanks !

You can do it! Take it one day at a time. You are totally capable :)
If you need to have some income, perhaps consider some per diem work on your husbands time off and or school breaks etc
I'm in a very similar boat.. your not alone!
I've been searching for something part time so that I can hopefully leave school then work for a few hours before my daughter comes home. I'm praying everything will work itself out the closer it gets to school starting. I'm glad I'm not alone and Good Luck to you !

I can't really offer you any tips right now because I am in the same situation as you, except for that fact that I have a six year old. I plan on using extra loan money to help cover the bills and working part time on the weekends. All I can say is try to remain positive. Maybe it wont be as bad as we're thinking it will be.
