Well, I just applied to Pima Community College Nursing and Im waiting for my paper application and what semester I will be admitted to! I just have a very general question: What should I expect? I know that there is a loooooong waiting list, but just wondering if anyone who is in the program or has gone through it can give me a heads up on what to expect? I only have 2 classes left that I can take before the program starts (Mircrobiology and FSN) which I plan on doing ASAP. Im so exicted to get in, Pima dosent seem to give much information on what I should do in the meantime (study related). Any info will be MUCH appreciated!
EDRN2B, Im excited to hear about your first day in the nursing program, can't wait!! What kind of info was in the syllabus?
Hey JazzysMama!
First off let me say that i've always hated the first day of school b/c i'm so ready to just jump in there and get started...but it was alright. I had Pharmacology from 8 - 11. The instructor was very nice and has a good sense of humor...very energetic. He introduced himself and then we jumped straight into the first lecture. Then i had nursing 104 from 1 - 3, and it was basically an orientation to the class. She gave us expectations of the class, talked about nursing and critical thinking, made sure we knew where to go for clinicals and skills.
The syllabus for each class has a significant amount of reading...we have pharm, nrs lecture, skills, clinicals, and drug calculations, and each class comes with reading....ugh! But hey, there are millions of RNs so I know i can get thru this! I attached the syllabus for nursing lecture just so you can see what i'm talking about. let me know if you want to know anything else!!
I applied to the PCC program end of May 2008 and I started the program last week. I originally received an Aug '09 start date. I was bumped up within a week of receiving that assignment. There will be no summer classes this year because they are doing building remodeling and they aren't scheduling classes. So those of us starting in Jan '09 are graduating Fall '10.
If you have applied to the program, you'd be a safe bet to start this coming fall or spring. Get your co-reqs done if you can so you don't have to worry about them later. I was originally told a 2 year wait from when I first went in to talk to the advisors and it wasn't anything close to that. A summer and fall semester was all I waited.
PCC has done a tremendous job getting the waiting list cleaned out. If you apply and get accepted, get ready to start sooner rather than later.

I am so glad for this thread. I was curious how the current waiting list is standing. It looks like I will be applying at the end of summer. I didn't know that they told you the starting date in the letter. That is awefully nice and helpful for planning.
