Jury duty summons

Just when I thought everything was planned, I got a summons for jury duty at the beginning of November. I'm writing a letter requesting excuse because of school. Anyone else run into this problem? How was it handled? There's nothing in the student handbook addressing being called for jury duty and being a full time student is not a guaranteed excuse from duty. This can really ruin my whole semester.

I would never tell anyone to do anything illegal but I have to say that they send those notices through the regular mail so they really don't know whether they actually reached you or not until you respond.

same thing happened to me first month of nursing school last year. our state allows for full-time students to be excused if the judge agrees.

I don't know if So Fla is different than Tampa but I sent in the form requesting deferrment due to being in nursing school and it was granted. My teacher told me that if they would not defer me - I would not be penalized as jury duty was my duty as a citizen.
