I am (hopefully) going to be attending the July 09 OBLC course at FSH. Is anyone else going during this time. I would love to know someone prior to going. I am prior service Army as a LPN, so this is my first stint with the Officer side. If there is anyone who has recently attended OBLC, I would love some feedback. This experience has been quite different than my enlisted one. Not to mention, I got out in 1998, so things have changed. Thanks!
Mine worked now. There is a lot of confusing information on here. I need a book full of what these acronyms mean. This is of concern if anyone knows what this means and can tell me.
STATION: FT HOOD TX 76544
DML: HSX - GREAT PLAINS REGIONAL MEDICAL COMMAND IPH
DMSL: - FT HOOD TX HEALTH SERVICES COMMAND
I looked it up and that Great Plains Refinonal Medical is in Oklahoma. I thought we were supposed to go to CRDAMC...
when you click on the rfo link and it opens another tab/window look at the address bar.
it will say something like blockedhttps://blahblahblah
go in and take out the "blocked" part and then hit enter or go or whatever.,
so the address remains without the blocked at the begining.
it seems that alot of government/military sites are not liked by alot of browsers security settings/functions. once you do this it will work. I had to do this.
oh yeah. also if it opens up nothing in the address. right click on the link and click open new window or try to get the link info through right clicking it etc.
good luck..
I did the same as Zombie, and it worked for me. Right click hte link and select 'Copy Link Location' and then you should be able to open a new tab and remove the blocked part.
As for those acronyms- I haven't a clue!! The DML thing might have something to do with that being the region that Ft. Hood is responsible for...? A complete guess though.
Thanks Zombie for the tip. :) I was finally able to view my RFO as well. It says to use it to make travel arrangements but my people at ROTC told me that I have to wait for the official orders. I'm gonna double check that because the sooner I can get everything shipped the better. It will take about a month to ship my car to Texas so I really want to send it ASAP.
Here some tips for all of ya'll going to July OBC. Just some things I learned in ROTC to make life easier and you more prepared. :)
Do sit-ups and push-ups every day, do the maximum for you age. Within a couple weeks you'll be golden on those 2 events. If you're running do a 3 mile run at least once a week, this will make the 2 mile easier and increase your confidence. Don't run everyday, you'll be asking for an over-use injury. Try to do some sprints, target is to get a 400m sprint in 1:45.
Start breaking your boots if you haven't already. Walk around the house in them, get them wet one day and walk in them for a couple hours. Buy good socks! This will save your feet. Stop getting pedicures. You need to keep the calluses on your feet so your boots don't tear them up. Not very glamorous but welcome to the Army. :)
Make sure you have a little notebook, pocket sized, and a pen and pencil with you at all times once you get to OBC. There's no easier way to annoy an NCO than for you to not have something to write with when they're giving out important info.
If you haven't bought all your uniforms yet and are planning on doing it at FSH, make sure you take at least $1000 or a credit card. I bought my dress blues in January and they were $400, alterations were $80, and ACUs run you around $70 each set. Factor in boots, tan shirts, socks, and it just get more and mroe expensive. So be prepared to put out the cash.
Hope this helps! I look forward to meeting whoever will be there with me next month!
Thanks rose. Has anyone tried to get on the amedd obc website? its been acting funny and I cant click on any links. Anyone else have this problem? Actually I have notices websites in general Army websites are very difficult and rarely seem to work right.
I too have noticed that the AMEDD OBC website does not work, it's been like that for atleast a few weeks.
Hmm since you are a staff officer you will be attending BOLC III or OBLC. Pretty much its an intro to how the army works. From what I understand you will not be participating in the more combat amrs type of training like BOLC II for all other officers. However, you will be able to qualify with a m-16/M9 if I amnot mistaken. But all the tactics and such are left for BOLC II and line officers. From what Ive heard its a cakewalk to prior service/ROTC but people not familiar to the army might find it difficult. As for what to bring, stick to the packing list and remember its Texas so pack accordingly.
Actually as an Army nurse, we are not "staff officers". We most likely never hold a staff position in a unit, such as S1 or S3. We do qualify with the M16 and M9 and we also do tactics as all Army officers should be aware of the foundation of infantry tactics no matter what branch. We will do land navigation, patrolling, and FOB operations, as well as Army combatives.
As far as where to purchase uniforms, I'm lucky enough to be very close to an Army post, Schofield Barracks, since my husband is stationed there. :) So I purchased all my uniforms and supplies at the clothing and sales there. For your dress blues I recommend Marlow White. I believe their website is www.marlowwhite.com. They make a high quality uniform and do all the alterations for you before shipping it based on your measurements.
Yeah the AMEDD website has not been functioning properly for a while. I've been going to http://www.cs.amedd.army.mil/32medbde/32m/A187TH/Website2/alphacompany187.html for info as this is the website for the company we will be assigned to at OBC.

My RFO email is doing the same thing, very frustrating. All we can do is wait for the official orders and hope it doesn't take too long. I can't ship my car or make any travel arrangements until I get the official orders.
