I am (hopefully) going to be attending the July 09 OBLC course at FSH. Is anyone else going during this time. I would love to know someone prior to going. I am prior service Army as a LPN, so this is my first stint with the Officer side. If there is anyone who has recently attended OBLC, I would love some feedback. This experience has been quite different than my enlisted one. Not to mention, I got out in 1998, so things have changed. Thanks!
Thanks for the reply! I signed this month, I hope I can still make the Oct class. Just a few more questions. Are you going active duty? How long did it take you to get slotted for school and who contacts you with this information? Any word on yur 1st duty station?
Oct OBLC starts on Oct 14. My understanding seats get assigned my entry date. I signed back in March, got bumped from July, so I would have priority for October. I don't believe they bump based on specialty code.
Hey LZ,
So I am indeed going active duty and since I am a previously experienced RN, alot of the choice assignments (major med cens) are left for the newbys. I have spoke to Major Hairston, who handles all of the new entering LTs and will mostly likely go to Ft. Wainwright in Alaska. I am hoping to have my orders in August. You should receive an email from her, if you have not already, regarding your entry and class seating. You should also hear the same form your recruiter. Hope this helps.
Thanks!
AK!!! hard charger!!! I'm trying to get Ft Irwin CA so I can stay close to SoCal for the 1st tour. Since I'm going in as a M5'r with 3yrs ER experience I hope they will give it to me, besides, I don't think anuone else want's it!

I think i must be crazy:jester:, but I like the heat, I spent time in 29 stumps and loved it, several places around the mideast and loved it, ?I just love to pt in the heat?
LZ, Ft. Irwin was one of my choices so it shouldn't be a problem for you. It's not a high demand area since it's out in the middle of bfe, so you should be able to get it.
Well, I'm back to OBLC in October. Good thing. Texas is HOT! I just spoke with Maj. Hairston at the HRC, and she gave me some hospitals to choose... Does anyone out there have any knowledge of Ft Benning in GA; Landstuhl, Germany, or Ft. Knox? Im a Minnesota girl and want to get out of the cold, but am not sure I'd like the heat of Georgia... Plus, I'd like to know if there is anything to do in these areas... Germany is a no brainer as far as things to do, but Kentucky and GA??? I'd appreciate any insight into these 3 bases...
If you don't want to go to Germany, choose GA, it closer to Florida and SC beaches & attractions and Hotlanta.

Actually, My wife's cousin was stationed there for 3 years in the hospital as a medic, they said they loved it there, I think they lived off base the whole time. You could also google the medical center and find a number that could put you in contact with a nurse, just call the operator and ask for any floor? I also think it is really close to an AF base which is good because of the AMC flights and extra recreational facilities. If you have Maj Hairstons e-mail could you PM it to me?

Thanks, LZRN... I'd really like to go to Germany. Is there an easy way to connect with nurses already at these bases to ask questions? I need to give Major H. an answer to solidify my slot soon.Have a great weekend!

I have a couple of questions. What are the exact dates for the OBLC starting in Oct? Also, will/do they allocate school seats by need. Example, if the need more ER nurses would they bump folks out to make room to get that M5 through?
