JU 2nd degree program

Published

Does anyone happen to know when they start doing interviews and also when we'll start receiving acceptance or rejection notifications?

Cool, I would like to make it for anyone with a BSN degree first since there isnt one and then we could just go from there and get specifics...I would love help lol I havent created a facebook group in a long time, just let me know what we should name it and ill get it started and post it here

Sounds great. I can't wait to Join the group and make suggestions and help in anyway I can.

Let me know when created. I'm looking into ideas and suggestions.

*edit* I saw tons of student pages for JU, like "2nd degree nursing students class of 2011, etc... " you can get some ideas by looking up Jacksonville University and clicking on "Groups" in the left column.

I received the Orientation reply from the RSVP email. If anyone needs the info I can forward it to you.

Hi Everyone,

I figured since these posts were from 2010 that all accepted 2nd degree students are now finished and either working or looking for work.

I applied to JU for summer 2012 and have so many questions and would really appreciate any feedback.

What is a typical week like for 2nd degree?

Did most students have job offers upon graduation or shortly after or are many still looking?

How did most students end up paying for the 40+k tuition? I was offered 7k from JU like most people but that still leaves about $33,000. OUCH!

Any other things you loved or hated about the JU 2nd degree program.

Thank you so much for any feedback!

Their program is awesome. If you truly pay attention in class it's much easier on you when you take exams. Best ways to study was to pay attention during lecture, study the slides, and study guides are very beneficial (not all professors give study guides). I used the textbooks as references when I was unsure of certain concepts. You pretty much have every Friday off except for the last summer as a senior where you may not have as many Fridays off. Its very doable, but you got to put a lot of effort. Once you get used to the schedule its much smoother. Don't let anyone scare you away and say you won't have a social life/ no life. There are 24 hours in a day so thats enough time to do a lot.

Its very expensive. It got paid through federal loans and private loans. Most students that graduated from the 2011 Second Degree program have jobs. Much easier to get a job if u stay in Jacksonville though. JU has a pretty good passing rate for the nclex as well.

Thank you so much for all of the information! I have 3 kids and am very nervous about the time constraints. I do not mind working my butt off but I didn't know if I would be away from them on the weekends too. Luckily my husband and my 14 year old are very willing to help out.

Im thinking I would rather get student loans and go to JU then no loans and go to UNF. JU just seems like such a better fit for me. Now I just have to wait and see if I got in.

Thanks again for your response.

I just graduated from the 2nd degree program at JU Dec '11 and it is definitely doable, hard work and highly stressful but I did it and was 9 months pregnant and planned my wedding during the accelerated semester lol so dont feel too intimidated. The first summer is pretty challenging but if you make it then I believe you will be fine throughout the program. It is a great program with awesome instructors and a high passing rate for the NCLEX, I just found out I passed today :)))
