Johns Hopkins Hospital Nurse Residency 2017

Published

Hi everyone!!

I recently accepted a job at JHH in the nurse residency program on the MICU and I start February 06, 2017. I wanted to reach out and see if anyone else is starting then/ or around that date? Also what units, when your taking NCLEX and how your feeling nearing the end of school?! :roflmao:

It's great to hear about how much support you're receiving! I've heard some horror stories of nurses "eating their young" but it's good to see that's not the case. Are you now officially on the floor working with patients and your preceptor or are you still in the classroom? Do you get to make your own schedule or do you have to work when your preceptor works?

Hi! I would like to add my two cents if that is ok!!! I used UWORLD also, it was amazing, I also used La charity (this was the most helpful to me) and the NCSBN learning text review (The wording of these questions were incredibly similar to NCLEX :) ). GOOD LUCK!!!!! I'm so excited for you!

i'll be doing Hurst since it's a part of my last semester then I'll order Uworld for a couple months because the reviews have been phenomenal about it. I'm studying a lot and will continue; although I applied for three residency programs this week and pray I'm contacting for an interview. Thanks for sharing everyone it's appreciated!

Hello! So I started this Monday and just received my schedule. It is a lot. But so worth it. You hit the ground running and there is a lot to learn. I remember being in school in the first week of each semester and seeing everything we had ahead of us (all the info on the syllabus and outline and sssignments basically) and feeling so overwhelmed. Not here. There are a lot of classes and they expect a lot out of you as they should but I have never felt overwhelmed a single time. They are providing an incredible amount of support to help develope me as a new grad. Everyone is so friendly and understands how you feel as new employees. It's not about "I know more than you; I'm more experienced and your wasting my time" its a group of people that love what they do and are so excited to share their knowledge with others. I love it there, I'm exhausted and I'm about to be even more exhausted here soon, but I wouldn't trade it or go back and work anywhere else coming out of school. I'm very happy with my decision.

Wow, this information is great for those of us striving to get where you are knowing Hopkins is committed to a safe learning environment. You are on your way to becoming an outstanding nurse with confidence because you sold yourself and landed your dream job.

Thank you for your advice! And I'm so glad you are loving your start there so far! How long after the interview did you hear back from them? Hope your second weeks goes great too, please keep us posted!

Congrats on your interview danilups! It took a few days for me to hear back from my Manager in regards to the position. She told me during my interview when she would reach out to me. Good luck to you!

Hey! Congrats! I would love to work for Hopkins and do the New Nurse Residency Program. How soon can you apply?, or how early did you apply? I graduate in May 2017 from Nursing school and will prayerfully take N- CLEX in june

I would suggest looking around and applying now. I graduated in December 2016 and applied for this position back in October. It took about a week to hear back about an interview and share time/shadow day. I was offered the position and officially accepted in November. What area are you interested in working?

Hi Shalbal, I'm definitely interested in critical care and that can be adult or pediatrics! I also enjoy OB. I am open and I just want to get my foot in the door. Any advice on the application? Im going to update my resume today and start applying this week. I am out of state as well so how does that work as far as interviewing?? Thank you!

The application process is pretty standard for any unit you apply too. All you really need to do is update your resume as well as tailor your cover letter to each position you apply for. The new thing they are doing is making generic RN positions open for each department and from there you tell them specifically what unit you want to interview on. For example, there will be an opening for Adult ICU and you would say whether you would like to interview for the MICU, SICU etc. From what I have heard, if you are out of state the nurse recruiter will try to accommodate you by having you do multiple interviews on the same day so you don't have to make multiple trips. Good luck to you!

THANKS!!! I did everything you recommended when it came to applying!! I was up late last night lol..I applied for 6 different units so far! So now I wait. I applied for PEDS, ADULT ICU, Surgery, OB-GYN, and General medicine. I really really hope I hear back from them soon! any advice or did you just wait until they reach out to you??!

Hi I just came across this post today. I'm in the process of starting the application. I live in New Jersey so I'm a little hesitant.

Hey! What makes you hesitant? I live in another state as well but I think the opportunity would be amazing so I would be willing to move for it!! Let me know how your application process goes. I applied for a few positions on Sunday so now I'm waiting. *fingers crossed*
