Johns Hopkins BSN/MSN Fall 2010 Anyone?

Published

Hi all - maybe I am jumping the gun, but has anyone else begun working on their applications for Summer/Fall 2010 admission?

I plan on applying for direct entry to JHU, UCSF, Yale, Columbia, and Vanderbilt. With the exception of UCSF's 9/1 deadline, the rest seem to be due between 11/1 and 12/1. Although UCSF has the closest deadline, I am stressing the most about the essays for JHU. Anyone started them yet?

Also, does anyone plan on attending the open house that JHU is having in September? I would love to go, but I am in California, so I have to decide if it is worth the $$$. I am thinking I might be better off saving the money to fly out for the interview (positive thinking here).

Anyway, I would love to compare notes with anyone applying, or anyone who applied last year.

Thanks and good luck! :D

I'm applying to the traditional BSN/MSN FNP track. I also rationalized that I might as well apply for both and save myself another round of applications in a couple years!

So did you interview in person? I hesitated to spend the money for another cross-country trip, but am really glad that I did! They are just so warm and friendly compared to other schools that I visited!

I did my interview over the phone. I applied for ABSN-MSN with nurse midwifery focus. Would have been nice to have done an in-person interview but my class schedule was really tough this past quarter and it was not feasible to get out there for it.

I did a tour of the school back in early September, which was when I decided that I definitely wanted JHU and would apply ED.

Getting so nervous now! I even haven't been sleeping well the past few nights!

Yes! I have my heart so set on Hopkins, it's going to be hard to refocus if I don't get in! Where else did you apply? And where in California are you? I'm in Sacramento and am looking forward to a new city!

Other schools I applied to (just ABSN programs): Duke, University of Rochester, and Goldfarb School of Nursing at Barnes-Jewish College in St. Louis. Might also apply to OHSU in Portland. Hopkins is by far my first choice, though. I really hope it works out!!!!! Ugh, so nervous!

I live in the Bay Area - have been here all my life so it'll be good experience to try someplace new for a bit!

Coping :- prepare for the decision to go either way, and keep it together if you're rejected. Should the latter occur, allow yourself the necessary time to grieve then move on (if not of your own accord, then by surrendering to the inevitable and constant movement of life).

For the moment, let us take heart in our courage to even apply. We were willing to be vulnerable and many fear tripping over this hurdle. A small consolation it may be, but you know....it is what it is.

Have any of the regular decision ABSN-MSN candidates heard about interviews, yet? I haven't heard a peep from them.

I looked at a thread from last year and it seems like they did interviews as early at 12/16!! Which is coming up pretty soon.

Anyway, I'm starting to get anxious.

i haven't heard anything yet, but keep in mind that the earlier you turned in your application the earlier you would be interviewing. i'm on pins and needles as well =/

Hey all,

I called JHU SON last week and inquired about how they would be "sending" out acceptance/rejection letters. I told the woman who answered that I know that acceptance phone calls were made earlier last year and would it be a similiar process. She informed me that they would make phone calls on December 15, and no earlier. She was very adamant about this. She also said that it was a fun day for them to hear all the excited reactions of accepted students. She also noted that not-accepted applicants would find out before December 15 via a letter or a different phone call. So i have been grudgingly checking my mailbox everyday since the 1st of December....hehe. She also informed me that they received over 600 applications for the accelerated program (I doubt they were all ED), so it was uber competitive. I also don't think that if you turned in your application early, they you will find out early (i.e., I turned mine in in September and interviewed in September as well--this has been a long and hard wait for me).

I wish everyone luck. Only a week left to go!

man...i have no fingernails left :D !! as with anything in life, it takes people going through the exact same thing to understand the level of stress that accompanies this wait. thank you support team!!

i also applied absn/msn with a fnp focus. i talked with an alumni of the accelerated program and he said he wished he would have applied that way. however, he said some people enjoyed being able to take some time off and work before starting their masters. i figured it couldn't hurt! my family and friends are just as excited about the 15th coming so that they don't have to hear about the "what if...." bless them they are so patient with my anxiety! keeping my fingers crossed that christmas comes on dec. 15th this year!!! ;) good luck!

Gatita - thanks for posting that information. Kind of strange that they would wait so long to give notice to accepted students. It only prolongs the suspense!

I applied to the Accelerated BSN program and never received an interview. Does this mean I don't have a chance? :o

They only interview those that apply for the combined BS to MSN option.
