Johns Hopkins BSN/MSN Fall 2010 Anyone?

Published

Hi all - maybe I am jumping the gun, but has anyone else begun working on their applications for Summer/Fall 2010 admission?

I plan on applying for direct entry to JHU, UCSF, Yale, Columbia, and Vanderbilt. With the exception of UCSF's 9/1 deadline, the rest seem to be due between 11/1 and 12/1. Although UCSF has the closest deadline, I am stressing the most about the essays for JHU. Anyone started them yet?

Also, does anyone plan on attending the open house that JHU is having in September? I would love to go, but I am in California, so I have to decide if it is worth the $$$. I am thinking I might be better off saving the money to fly out for the interview (positive thinking here).

Anyway, I would love to compare notes with anyone applying, or anyone who applied last year.

Thanks and good luck! :D

Good stuff. UCSF, I've heard, is the best program in the country, generally speaking. The wife of a friend attended there for Psychiatric nursing; she absolutely raves about the quality of experience, particularly the instruction. She mentioned, of course, that it is exhausting and demanding.

I also live in CA; Where in CA do you live?

JHU is my first choice because I want (and perhaps need) a BSN before an MSN; this is important to my goals and being eligible for a broader range of employment and/or loan repayment schemes.

I'll resist the temptation to say you'll get in because I don't really know, do I? You appear an incredibly smart and perceptive person, so I'd bet on you getting into all your programs. Sometimes, though, great applicants fall through the cracks. In any event, there is little more one can do but hope that their application is given proper attention and a fair evaluation.

Yale students attitude may be a product of the schools academic culture and geographic location.

the feelings are mutual; we really can only hope that our applications are evaluated fairly and thoroughly. today was the first day that i actually got a knot in my stomach thinking about all this. at least you'll have a final decision soon enough.

the only hesitation i have about ucsf is the inability to receive a bsn. that aspect is one of the many that make jhu so attractive. i'm with you on the employment and/or loan repayment options. having a bsn would make things a lot easier in that regard.

i live in los angeles. where are you?

I'm so glad to have found this thread. I'm going CRAZY waiting to hear from Hopkins! Good luck to everyone and hopefully the next two weeks will fly by :-)

i live in monterey county, 1 hr south of san jose (i say this because some ppl don't know where mc is)

where'd you do you undergrad?

i'm a bruin =)

Shallowhorn, thanks for sharing information about your visits and your approach to choosing a school. It's interesting to hear about other people's experiences! I'm not so far from Baltimore, and I truly think the city is underestimated... it really is Charm City and I've had great experiences there. Like anywhere, some areas are shady, but some are just perfectly lovely.

Poet, don't underestimate how competitive of a candidate you might be. I know, it's hard not to compare yourself to other applicants... I tend to do the same thing and see that there are so many who seem to have done so many amazing things (that I haven't had the opportunity to do), or who appear to have it so together. But, you never know what admissions is looking for, and the impression that I get is that they will choose all sorts of students to make a well-rounded cohort. You might offer something that is exactly what they're looking for!

Ack. All this anticipation! I hope I communicated my passion and potential well-enough for them to choose me, because I really think the greatest opportunity for me is at Hopkins. I just want to know!

So glad to find this thread. I also applied for the ED of JSU BSN/MSN program. I went to a person-to-person interview, but thought I could do better afterwards.

I really like JHU. If I can get in, I don't need to leave my family, which will be wonderful.:yeah:

Good luck to everyone!

keeping fingers crossed for everyone!!

Last year they started getting calls on December 9th, which was a Tuesday...maybe they'll call us all tomorrow :-)

Hope everyone is doing well and not going crazy while they wait. If anyone hears anything please let us all know!

oh man that'd be great to hear tomorrow!

where else have people applied? has anyone heard back from other schools yet?

the thing that gets me is that the decisions are probably all finished now! they are just sitting there waiting to be sent...

I just really am hoping that they call instead of using snail mail!

I have already applied to UCSF, Yale, VCU, and Vanderbilt. If I am not accepted into Hopkins I will also apply to UMB & Georgetown.

Good luck everyone! Let us know when/how you hear something!

Good luck to you, too! So are you applying for the ABSN-MSN pathway? What specialty?

I originally was going to apply just to ABSN but when I visited the campus, I sensed strong encouragement to apply to MSN at the same time. Kind of the "there's nothing to lose" attitude...
