Hello everyone,
I am applying to JHU's Accelerated BSN program. I am wondering if anyone can offer any insight into how competitive the admissions process is, what GRE scores are considered good, etc.
Also, if anyone is/was enrolled in the program, any insider information would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers,
Stacy
Like ebowman, I received that weird email from financial aid on Thursday morning. Stacy's right. Supposedly, financial aid jumped the gun and sent the email before the staff made the acceptance calls. I wasn't sure what was going on until I received an acceptance phone call Friday morning.
Congrats to everyone else who got in!! I have my fingers crossed for those of you who didn't get the good news, yet.
Hi there Pasitch! I think some of us are still keeping an eye on these threads, but you can also join us on Facebook too: John Hopkins University *Traditional Nursing Class of 2012*! There is also one for the accelerated class: Johns Hopkins University *Accelerated Nursing Class of 2011*
I will indeed be at Accepted Students Day - I am actually flying in early to check out some Hopkins friendly apartments. What about you, will you be able to make it? It's such short notice for the newest acceptances - but hope to see you there!
hi, i am wondering what financial aid is like there. the estimated cost is $89,000 for tuition, books, living expenses, etc. is the majority of financial aid private loans? and for living expenses, are we responsible to find a loan/means to pay for it?
esunada-- i applied early decision and shortly after acceptance i was sent an email that asked to estimate my earnings for 2009 so that hopkins could estimate my financial aid. i am considered an independent student (i am over 24- independent students are over 24, or are married, or have dependents). after i sent that in they sent me another email breaking down how much could possibly be covered by federal grants/loans, any school grants, and how much i could be expected to come up with on my own through private loans/grants. all of it was an estimate and is not set in stone. at the student accepted day it was told to students by a financial aid person that we will not know what our financial aid awards are until april 1. the amount of aid really depends on your estimated family contribution, which is calculated by some formula when you fill out your fafsa. the lady said that hopkins takes your efc and the cost of attendance (which includes housing, living expenses, travel expenses, and food) and does some calculation to get what you are eligible for in financial aid. then they take all of your financial aid awards including loans, scholarships, and grants and pay your tuition and other school related fees. they subtract how much you got in awards from what your bills are (tuition and other school fees) and the difference is given to you in a check. i think it is called a disbursement. that is what you are to use to live on. however, you do not get the first disbursement check until the first week of school. if i understood correctly, the total that is left over from what you are awarded when subtracted from your bills is split over 4 equal disbursement checks for the duration of your bsn. i speak for the accelerated program when i say it is split into fourths. i am not sure how it is spilt up for the traditional tract. so, and i am completely making these numbers up and do not know if they are even remotely close to what the truth is !!
if the difference in what your awards package including private loans and federal financial aid, etc.. is and what the actual tuition and school fees comes out to be 20,000 then that would be divided into fourths so you would receive a check for 5,000 to cover expenses for each semester. at least that was the way that i understood it !!! over half of my cost of attendance is expected to come from "anticipated private supplemental loan." i cannot speak for others.
i hope this helped a little. i know it is probably as clear as mud !!

Thanks for the clarification, however that wouldn't help explain, as my last name begins with A, and applied to the ABSN. Good luck! I hope this does mean good things for you.
