John Tyler Community College Spring 2018

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hi!! I started this thread for all those who plan on applying for the JTCC Spring 18 RN session. (Hybrid or traditional)

Anybody who has previously applied to the JTCC program please feel free to join the discussion and tell us applicants how the application process went as well as how the nursing program went or is going!!

Best of luck to everyone who applies!!

I believe I scored in the 89th percentile which I'm hoping is high enough to get in! I've seen and heard of people getting in with scores as low as 68% overall getting in so prayers that we do too!! I'm very anxious and excited to find out!! :) Hoping we can all meet at orientation!!! What track did you apply to??

Hello! I also applied for JTCC's nursing program in Spring 2018! Here's hoping we all get in :) I scored in the 91st percentile on my TEAS. October cannot come soon enough!

I applied to the traditional track. I just finished my bachelor's degree at VCU so I prefer in class learning rather than online.

I wonder how many total people applied to the program for spring 2018. I know when it's more people the standards required to get in are typically higher, so that's nerve racking! Haha.

I'm just trying to keep busy so I won't keep checking my email until October.

We will definitely all meet at orientation!

Hello! I applied to both the hybrid and traditional tracks, although the hybrid is my first choice. My TEAS score was a 83 (92 percentile.) I literally took the TEAS test for the first time the day before the application closed... it was a last minute decision to apply to John Tyler for spring 2018 so I think I did decently but I wish my science scores were higher! It's been over a decade since I took a science class (taking A&P this semester online.) If I don't get in, I'm going to try for VCU's accelerated BSN program for next summer... thankfully they don't require the TEAS test. :)

Has anyone else heard a rumor that in a previous year John Tyler didn't accept anyone that scored below a 90 on the TEAS? Someone brought that up during the mandatory information session we had to attend and the Nursing Director didn't deny (or confirm) it. It has me a bit alarmed though!

I haven't heard if that's specifically true, but when there were more applicants in the past, the requirements for the TEAS test naturally went up as there were a lot more qualified applicants to choose from. It varies every semester.

I know they definitely look at the TEAS test score heavily. But they also look at the everything else after they assess the teas score. They consider grades & gpa & certifications etc. so it all plays a part in the end! Just hoping we all have what they're looking for!

Question,

What made you guys want to do the hybrid track? Just curious. I always felt like I learned better in class so I chose the traditional track, but I didn't know if some people just genuinely like online classes better or if you feel like it fits your schedule better?

The information session I went to the director said she couldn't give us an "average" of the teas acceptance scores because each year it's different she said she's accepted people with as low as 72% overall one semester but another nobody under an 88% got in she said it just depends on the pool of people your applying with. I'm trying to keep myself busy to so I don't stress!!

Hey there, I read about the hybrid track. Can you explain exactly what that is?

From what I understand, all of your classes are taken at home, online. You have to do clinicals just like everyone else at a specific site but most of the learning is done at home. I believe you also have to come to campus for the lab setting.

I applied to the traditional track, so someone else who applied to the hybrid track may know more about it.

Hey Everyone!

Just checking in to see if anyone else is starting to feel anxious about hearing back? Still hoping we all get in!!!

It looks like from the previous Spring cohort, they didn't hear back until mid-October.

Yes! Very anxious. I got accepted into one of the other programs I applied to and they want us to either accept or deny by September 20th. I'm sure we won't hear back from jtcc by then. John tyler is my first choice, so a I plan on denying my acceptance to the other program, but then I risk not having any school to go to in the spring! So I'm definitely anxious, lol.

The latest cohort that just applied in the spring found out April 23rd and they applied march 19th I believe. So hopefully we don't have long!

Oh my goodness!! Congratulations!!!! I'm so happy that you were accepted into one of the other programs you applied to! Do you mind my asking where you were accepted? I'll be crossing my fingers we find out before September 20th to make that decision easier on you!

It was to Southside Regional's program. I applied as a backup program, and then I heard some negative things about the program. I know it's still accredited and still a good program, and for a lot of people it's worked out great for them, its just not my first choice.

I'm really keeping my fingers crossed for John tyler! Hoping we find out sooner than later.

All I keep hearing from people is how picky they are in choosing their applicants. So they aren't making the wait much easier, lol!
