Hi there guys
are there any new grads who are looking for jobs in new york city?
do they count your clinical experience in school?
does ltc really help in getting a job?
it's very frustrating

I am in NYC. They don't count clinicals to be experience unfortunately. I graduated in January, have had my licence since March and haven't had any luck at hospitals. Out of my class, I only know of 4 people who have gotten jobs. I would say LTC experience can't hurt, but I've applied to quite a few of those as well. I will be working at a summer camp for a few weeks this summer and I am in the process of being hired at a pediatric home care agency. It's per diem and the pay is not as much as the hospitals but they train you and you mentor with a nurse until you feel comfortable going out on your own. The cases are all high tech (vents/trachs g-tubes) and you can do private duty nursing or skilled nursing visits. I only have an ASN so that is part of the problem. I start my RN to BSN program in August and figure I can work for this agency while I finish and just keep applying. Good luck!

My understanding is that due to hospital closures and many schools in the area that finding a job in NYC is nigh to impossible and actually impossible if you are an ADN and not BSN. You may have to consider working outside of the city to find work.
Clinicals are a part of education, not actual experience.
