Any tips on finding a job as a new Adult NP?

What things should I be looking for?

Should I compromise and just do anything?

I have been looking for a job since December. I have passed my boards but sadly I have become no more marketable than before. I know we are in a recession but I need a job. I am interested in oncology and had initally focused my efforts looking for a job in that specialty area. Now I have broadened my hopes to try other things still no success. Do I just take anything to get some experience?

Specializes in L&D, QI, Public Health.

Congrats!!!!!!!:yeah::nurse::):wink2::D:up:

Specializes in Cardiology.

So, I went for that interview last monday and today is thursday and I still haven't heard anything yet. I was wondering how long is one supposed to follow up after the interview. I've been told anywhere from 5 to 10 days. I don't want to be pushy, but I really want this job. I sent a thank you note in mail and they should have received by today. Should I wait until tomorrow? next week? What do you all think?

Specializes in allergy and asthma, urgent care.

The waiting is really hard......I'd give it 10 days before calling. You've done everything that you're supposed to do. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you!

Specializes in Nephrology, Cardiology, ER, ICU.

Congrats to nurselele05!

And...best wishes to mssmith!

Specializes in Level 1 Trauma.

Actually most people like NPs now-a-days. That is my experience at least.

I was recommended to close all interviews with a question of when one can expect to hear from potential employers. That way, a time frame is established and call backs suggest serious interest from the interviewees.

I think waiting a week is sufficient. Being "persistent" is a positive attitude. :)
