HAS ANY ONE GOTTEN A NURSING JOB WITH A SHOPLIFTING CHARGE OR SIMILAR ON THERE BACKGROUND CHECK? IF SO WAT DID YOU PUT ON YOU APPLICATION FOR EMPLOYMENT! ANY SUCCESS STORYS WILL HELP! IM CURRENTLY IN SCHOOL FOR LPN AND I NEED SOME HOPE!:nurse::nurse::nurse::coollook:

I have a charge for shoplifting and I was able to get my license and get a job. I think it just depends on how long ago it was. My charge was almost 8 years ago, and a lot of employers who do background checks only go back 7 years. I think if it was a long time ago, you will probably be fine.

I'm in the same boat. I have a petit theft charge from 12 years ago. Was young and dumb and let a friend "hook me up". She got caught and we both were charged, and that has haunted me for the rest of my life. Im into my second month of Nursing School now and all I can think about is "will I be able to actually attend clinicals?", " will I be able to get a license?", " will a company actually hire me and will I be discriminated against?" I'm in Virginia so I cant get it expunged, and I feel like once a certain period of time has gone by, it shouldnt count against me anymore. I pray that this changes in the future.

I am currently in the same spot. I was accepted into an LPN program in Illinois. I somply dont have the money to get the record expunged.. In 2007 I was arrested for rewtail theft, went to court, attended a session and because I completed this Saturday course when I went back to court the case was dimissed. I already had a background screen for CNA in Dec 2011 and I got a letter that read "no convictions" and I had to submit a new app yesterday for another screen. Now for the LPN they did mention we are going to get finger printed so now I am worried this is going to set me back tremendously. I have no excuses for the stupid mistake. I have never even gotten pulled over by a police officer for any reason...My class starts monday and I dont know how hopeful I am anymore. I called the IL Center for Nursing and they advises me to worry and focus on passing the program now. That they can not guarantee things but he did say it is a case by case situation and that right now the things that rule for complete bar (100% denial for licensure) are things like armed crime against and individual and that things that require a person top register as a sex offender may go into effect and you wont be granted licensure. But because the law can change any months from now its not guarantee. ANY ADVISE? please any insight would be greatly appreciated. This is what Ive always envisioned being my career and a part of me feels like I might as well forget about embarassing myself if Im going to get denied. Im really to embarassed to tell the school as well. Like I read before it does asked for convictions which I was told before court to always answer "No" too because I was not convicted....

Dont KNow What To do ANymore.....

Help ? :/
