Hello. I'm living and working as a nurse in Japan now. I passed NCLEX-RN in NY last year. :nurse: I have 4 years experience of nursing and have BSN.

I applied to some of hospitals in NY. And I heard they can't support visa for foreign nurse now... :crying2:

I really want to work in US as a nurse.

I need good information how can I get my job opportunity in US in this situation.

Thank you,

Thank you,

You and about several hundred score (or more) nurses wish to arrive on US shores to practice.

For various reasons the nursing "shortage" in most areas of the United States has gone to a surplus. New graduates along with experienced nurses are all finding it hard to find full time employment.

A USA business can only sponsor a foregin person for employment after proving to the government that the position cannot be filled by an American, and that they have tried very hard to do so. Given the current situation of nursing employment, any hospital/facility today is going to have a *VERY* hard time going that route.

Four major hospital/healthcare systems have closed in New York City within the past two years, the latest two being Saint Vincent's Catholic Medical Center and Harlem General. This has sent hundreds of experienced nurses out in search of employment to the remaining hospitals who aren't doing that much hiring.

Adding to this are over fifty nursing programs in NYC alone cranking out new graduates once or twice a year like clock work. Furthermore NYC hospitals can and do also recruit nurses from New Jersey, other parts of NYS, Conn., and indeed all over the United States.

In short, there is ample supply of native born nurses for the time being, so wouldn't fancy your chances of obtaining a visa.

Specializes in Medical and general practice now LTC.

Suggest you read up on Retrogression because you will be affected and as mentioned in previous post US nurses are currently struggling so that means foreign nurses will have a even tougher time

I understood people have tough time in US.

I hope the situation will be changed all over the world and people will be happy.

I will find out best way. :nurse:
