job requiring travel that isn't a travel nurse

Published

hi all. i have a friend who loves to travel and asked me a question that i cannot answer: what types of jobs exist (either in the clinical aspect or the business aspect of healthcare) for BSNs that involve a high amount of travel? she is thinking about going for her bsn but wants to do extensive traveling (not travel nursing). she wants to constantly be on an airplane. i tried talking her out of it since i lived a life on the road but she won't listen. she wants a job where she flies out on mondays and returns on fridays.

does anyone here have that kind of job? does anyone here know of someone with that type of job? karen is really wanting her bsn but wants to use it in the business world, i guess.

thanks

Specializes in Med/Surg, Tele, IM, OB/GYN, neuro, GI.

Reps for surgical equipment and medical supplies do a lot of traveling. One of the woman that I used to work for traveled across the country teaching/pitching new equipment used to perform a bladder sling lap. She would have to go to hospitals and "sell" the equipment to them and then go to all the MD's that had privilages to send them to training out of Dallas. She would follow up with the MD for six procedures with a MD from the co to assist the MD's with doing the procedure.

Drug reps do too but that's mostly in the state that you're living in but most companys offer a car.

Specializes in Pediatrics (Burn ICU, CVICU).

JCAHO surveyors (entry level may be MSN though, I'm not sure)...I think this would be a totally cool job.

Specializes in Anesthesia: Peds, General, ENT, Trauma.

I once met a couple of RNs that traveled all over as consultants for Ambulatory Surgery Center start ups. They weren't involved in the sales pitch, just came in after the consulting company was hired and helped us decide which equipment to buy, which supply companies to use, help set policies, etc...

They were always on the road helping clients in different states of start up.

I'm not sure how interesting it was, but they seemed to like it.
