Ok so I've been interviewing and scouring jobs in hospitals for weeks now. And finally have a part time job which starts with Orientation Monday.
Here is my problem...and I go back and forth with what to do about it.
I am also working a shift a week with a local agency and am scheduled saturday night and monday night for them. I start orientation monday all day and obviously cant work monday night. If I call them today and tell them to cancel these few shifts, they may dump me from working tomorrow night. I'm sort of depending on that money before my paycheck starts coming in again.
Yeah I know..I need to call. But I was thinking of calling them After I work tomorrow shift. Bad huh?

You will have a much better chance of staying on good terms with them and staying employed by them if you are honest and give ample notice.

I was in your same shoes when I got a job offer from a hospital that had just lifted a two year hiring freeze. It was the same hospital my hubby worked for, and I really wanted to get the job.
My recruiter is the one who alerted me to this opening. She understood my situation and gave me some options:
1. Finish out the last month of my current contract, but there would be no guarantee that the other job would be available then. It was a travel position, but she talked at length to the HR rep, who seemed confident that the position would turn into a perm position.
2. Give her my notice now, and she would guarantee an interview with the HR rep. If I cut my contract short, I would be ineligible to ever work for the hospital that I was currently working for, because I would be breaking the contract.
I chose the second option, interviewed with HR and got the job. Recruiters can work things out for you, especially if you have a good rapport with them. I am glad that you are calling them now. You never know if you will ever need to pick up extra work, and you already have a good working history with the agency.
Keep us posted.
