JJC Nursing Program: Fall of 2015

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Hi, ya'll! I just thought I would try to connect with any other hopefuls that are going to attempt to be accepted into JJC's Nursing program for Fall of 2015. Was curious as to how you are all feeling about your possibility of being accepted. (I.e teas score, pre-reqs, gpa, etc.)

Hope to meet some new friends to share this journey with! Any other "seasoned" nursing students that read this, care to shed some light on what I should be preparing myself for?

You're very welcome! I am truly sorry that your friends did not get accepted. However, you can NOT let that deter you from being extremely stoked that you have made this huge accomplishment in your life! Obviously, you are sympathetic to them and maybe do not discuss how excited you are with them right now... but still be VERY proud of yourself and VERY excited for your own journey to begin. Once they are over the initial disappointment, you can always offer to help with studying for the TEAS or whatever to get them accepted next semester! :)

Very true, Lauryn. I hated putting it on FB yesterday but I wanted my extended family and friends to know. Im so excited to pick out the uniform and stethoscope. lol Do they offer the Littmann stethoscope at JJC, I wonder? My dad wants to purchase me a nice one for a gift for getting into the nursing program.

I'm not sure what they offer. Many people have suggested holding off on the super nice ones until graduation since they may get lost, broken, etc in clinical!

Do we wear scrubs as soon as classes start? Like the first day?

I just wanted to take a moment to say "CONGRATS!" to everyone who made it into the JJC program! I am gearing up for exams and upcoming finals for first semester. Welcome to the JJC RN program everyone! If there is any questions I can help with just let me know! :nurse:

Guys to answer a few of your questions:

You will only wear your scrubs to school when you have skills testing, and to clincals. During group registration you will all get together, and you will get your assigned classes & schedule. It is already decided for you, and you will have an opportunity to purchase NSA spirit wear, and scrubs.

P.S. NSA spirit wear can only be purchased via cash or check. You worked your hearts out to get into this program, and I think everyone should get the Carpe Diem RN student sweat shirts, t-shirts, decal for your vehicle and etc. Your call, but it really feels great to show your pride in your accomplishments. You also can purchase your clinical bag at registration time from NSA, and my whole group has them! They SO come in handy, and again purchasing anything is not mandatory.

Thanks for the info! I can't wait to show my pride and purchase the Carpe Diem stuff!

Also, do we have to wear certain color shoes for clinicals?

Hey! I got accepted into the night program as well! As far as a stethoscope I would definitely grab a not as expensive Littmann, I've had my Littmann Select since 2012 and it beats the cheaper scopes a thousand times over. The Select is $46.95 on Amazon and worth it! The only thing I am worried about with it is if JJC will allow it as the handbook states we need a scope with adult & peds diaphragm and bell, the Select only has a diaphragm. The handbook also states white shoes are the uniform. The handbook can be found here http://www.jjc.edu/nursing/Documents/Student_handbook_Spring_2015.pdf I am sure there will be lots of info to be had at registration!

Thanks! I'll check that hand book out. I didn't know there was one.

I see it says no clogs in the handbook. I wonder if they just mean the shoes must have backs or they are talking about those nice nurse shoes, Dansko brand.
