JJC (Joliet Junior College) Fall 2015

U.S.A. Illinois

Published

Hey I don't know if a thread has already been started for this program but I am interested in applying for the February 15th deadline for the Fall 2015 start date at JJC. I haven't signed up for my TEAS yet because I don't want to pick a date that is too early or too late since I also need to begin studying but I was thinking about signing up for the Feb 2nd 4th or 5th date. If anyone else is applying to the program or is currently in the program please feel free to reply and share anything that you can. Thanks =)

The 64% or so average sounds about right to me..

sorry this is my first post and I have no idea what I am doing

Hi Darby,

I have not received any emails. I thought they mentioned the first week of March or so for an email to address the essay, but I could be mistaken.

Kinsaur,

Have you talked to other people about their scores?

Has anyone here completed Microbiology already at JJC? ( 240) I met with an advisor yesterday and she suggested I take it this summer so that I am not trying to complete it while in the Nursing program. I am worried that since I am not currently enrolled I will not be able to get into a class since I will be allowed to register after everyone else has already snatched up the classes. Anyone have recommendations on a teacher?

I signed up to take the class this spring but ended up changing my mind since I figured I would have to take it during the program anyways. But I signed up for I think his name was Bellas, I saw good reviews for his class on ratemyprofessor. That's a good website to use if you want to find recommendations about a professor

That seems to be the general opinion, that he's the one to take. I will HOPEFULLY get into a class this summer and get it outta the way.

Just got my email saying Im a qualified candidate and will receive further instruction in the next two days regarding proceeding to the next step of the selection process. YAY!!

I forgot to post in this thread as well what I found out yesterday, so here is a copy and paste:

I just thought I would update ya'll once again. I cannot seem to get this Nursing program acceptance/denial off of my mind! So I called the department again today, and Ms. McComb informed me that they now have decided who is qualified and who isn't. She said there was actually 233 that applied, and of those 233 there are 208 qualified. They are now in the review process of narrowing down from there, and emails should go out soon to schedule dates to complete the essay if you need to.

@Monac,

I asked if she knew how many people were in the "guaranteed" category, and if we are going to have to take the essay as well. She said she did not know that number yet, but may if I call back in about a week or so. She said it would be very rare for there to be more students in the qualified category than seats, but she may be able to give us more information on that next week. Obviously, if I call and there are only 43 students "guaranteed", we are good to go. :)

She did mention that last semester the average TEAS score was 73. She thought it may be slightly lower this round, but wasn't sure. I know this isn't a ton of help, guys, but just thought if you were as eager as I am to find all of this out then at least I had SOMETHING new to share. LOL

Also, a fellow applicant from the other thread said she spoke to Kathy and was told that people with an 80+ on the TEAS may be receiving their acceptance letters as early as the next two business days....because only 10% of the applicant pool fell into the guaranteed category. We don't know if this is true or not, but I am just sharing everything I am told so that we are all on the same page! :) Good luck, everyone!

Just wondering Laurynq16, you said you were in the radiography program previously. Did you take it at JJC and if so what were your thoughts on the program? Have you worked as a Rad Tech?

Hi Darby,

I think the program is great. I was in the program in 2011. About 6 weeks in, I found out I was pregnant. I kept pushing through, and when it came time to return after my maternity leave, it was like my world came crashing down with tons of personal issues that made it impossible to return at that time. Professor Verkler runs the program and he is just absolutely phenomenal. Loves his job, really cares about his students. I never pursued it afterwards because I wanted more hands on, one-on-one with patients and Radiology only gives you about 5 minutes with a patient. It's just two different worlds. It really comes down to what you are looking for in a job/career.

Janet Corcoran is cool.

Great, thank you! What did you like about her?
