JHU Fall 2018 MSN Entry into Nursing

Published

Has there been a thread created for Johns Hopkins Fall 2018 MSN Entry into Nursing program? is there anyone applying to this program??

Thanks!

I still haven't heard back from the scholarship programs but if not student loans

The Hopkins Financial Aid page mentioned that about 72% of their students receive scholarships and they will contact their students about aid/scholarships on Fridays. I have recently sent in my FASFA to all the schools I applied for so I think I will try to wait and see which gives me the best option financially.. (But quite honestly Hopkins has always been my #1 pick)

I got in. My question is do I have to reapply if I want to pursue my education further like to become a FNP?

Hi guys! Wanted to start a forum for those of us who have been accepted to the MSN Fall 2018 Cohort. Congrats to everyone!!

There is already a forum that has been started for Fall 2018 a few months ago. Just FYI.

It's called JHU Fall 2018 MSN Entry into Nursing

Same Question! Hopefully, the packet they sent will have some information...

You will have to complete a post-masters certificate so you will have to apply to schools who offer those. A lot waive the GRE and some other things if you have a masters already. I want to become an AG-ACNP so that is my plan if I get into JHU. I applied very late for the spring semester and was wait listed (and was informed by mail that the spring cohort is officially full), so I'm hoping to hear something (good news or bad) after Christmas. I received a Christmas card so maybe that's a good sign.

So I have to reapply for the FNP program? I rather go to a direct entry program then having to reapply? What would the advantage be to go to Johns Hopkins instead?

That's my understanding. JHU offers a CNL degree, which is still a Master's degree but it is a generalized degree. The advantages depend on what you are looking for ultimately. It puts you a step closer to your FNP but not totally. With the CNL you still enter nursing practice at a higher level and you will have greater responsibilities than what a BSN would offer you. However you are still limited compared to an NP, such as writing prescriptions and such. You're closer to an advanced practice degree but you would still have to go through more school and application processes should you go to JHU, and I don't believe JHU offers NP degree's that are not DNP designations.

I applied to MGH and Vanderbilt for their direct entry MSN-nurse practitioner programs because once I graduate (should I get in) I will have the "title" of AG-ACNP if you will. I applied to JHU on a whim honestly, even though I do not want to stop my education / career at the CNL level but to have JHU on your resume is significant at least to me.

True but at the same time no cares where you graduate in the nursing field all they care about is wether you got your degree or not. That is why i might not go to JHU bec they don't have a direct entry and i am not interested in reapplying bec I am already accepted to some direct entry programs. I have to call them up regarding this, maybe if get a couple of people to petition this we can possible get this done anyone interested in going?

Some might care, some might not but just the name alone will catch more eyes than a non-known school. If I get into the direct entry programs I applied to, that is what I will choose over JHU but I will be happy with both. Do what's best for you and your career, and save that spot for someone who does want to go to Johns Hopkins.
