Has anyone working in Pittsburgh heard about Johns Hopkins taking over the West Penn Allegheny Health System? A couple of fellow nurses were discussing it last night. Just curious.

I work at AGH, haven't heard anything about that. Then again, we likely wouldn't be told if the building was on fire...

I've yet to hear that rumor.
As of right now, it's only a rumor, but wouldn't it be something. Give UPMC a run for its money!

About two years ago I heard rumors that Cleveland Clinic was looking at opening a facility here. Somehow, UPMC managed to keep them out. LIKE I SAID, THAT IS A RUMOR. Rumors can say anything.

This just in, boys and girls: AGH is going to team up with Highmark and Cleveland Clinic, and all patients with Highmark insurance will HAVE to go to AGH. That is going to cut patient admissions to UPMC facilities by 25%--ooh, cut on the chin to the Evil Empire. This is NOT a rumor. The free flow of money at the UPMC hospitals has come to a very screeching halt. Too bad, since I work at one of them.....
Didn't West Penn Partner with JH for a med school?

I've heard that Highmark bought West Penn. Highmark will keep the present employees but WP will no longer be part of WPAHS. Who knows if the burn unit will stay at WP.

It's not a done deal. Read this article from the Post Gazette

It's Highmark getting angry cause UPMC wants higher reimbursements. So Highmark is threatening to take their toys and go and play somewhere else.
If anything does come this it'll absolutely bites. Big time. It's all politics and money without any thought of patient care. I'm on my parent's highmark insurance and one of my clinics is UPMC only. WPAHS doesn't offer what I need in any of it's hospitals, and it'll take a LONG time for them to offer it since there's no pre-existing infrastructure or department.
