Jersey College school of nursing/ Holyname school of nursing Graduates

Published

MY question is for the graduates of jersey college school of nursing(Teterboro, nj) and Holy name medical center school of nursing graduates.. Where you able to find jobs in hospital settings after graduation? and how long did it take for you to finish school>? Jersey college graduates , would you recommend this school to anyone?

I used to live in north NJ but I didn't attend those schools, however I do know about them.

Holy Name is a hospital school diploma program, and while they boast a high hire rate for their graduates within a year, that's not in hospitals. If you search the jobs for RN's in Holy Name Hospital's career search you will see "BSN preferred." They have a high nclex pass rate, and there are plenty of RN-BSN or RN-MSN programs in north NJ.

Jersey College has a bit less nclex pass rate than Holy Name but it's still over 80%. Unfortunately it's not accredited by a national accreditation body.

In your area, the nursing school for ADN I felt was best was Passaic County College. I know you might be located in bergan county. So out of those 2 options you asked about, I'd pick Holy Name which is accredited by the ACEN and I'd make a definite plan to go after a BSN or MSN...but these are just my opinions and I'm a new nursing student who doesn't know all that much yet but I did used to up in that area like i said.

edit - I just saw under you're post that you're from Hackensack....am I wrong or isn't there a diploma program from Hackensack hospital? They are merging with some other big hospital system..that would be great to get into maybe.

Thank you for the response . now I have a question about jersey college not being accredited by Nln? what does this mean? I know they approved by the state of nj.. I was leaning more towards this school so that I can keep my job during the day ..however I hear mixed reviews on how they keep their 30k but don't let their graduates take the nclex because they haven't pass en exit review...

Hackensack mountainside school is not accepting applications because they are relocating that's what is says on their site... I also applied to PCCC I am waiting to hear from them since their tuition is cheaper than holy name and jersey college

PCCC would be great, they have a night program too (or used to..) Plus I'm pretty sure you can get more out of scholarships.

The Nln stands for National league of nursing. They have 2 national accreditation bodies. Jersey College isn't approved by either of them, but it is for the NJ Board of Nursing. But you wouldn't be able to work outside of NJ...I don't know if there is a way you eventually could.. maybe someone else here knows?

Also I don't know how or if that would effect furthering your education to BSN+ if you wanted to pursue that. I also don't know if some potential work places in NJ would look at Jersey College and not hire you because it's not nationally accredited. I'm just speculating on that though.

P.S. I just wanted to suggest that you call PCCC or even better go there in person (when they are in) to get some faster answers

Hi! What did you end up deciding on?

How did it go?

Bumping for an update. I am also considering these two schools

Jersey College is okay. Nothing to go crazy over. The classes are difficult but they'll be difficult anywhere you go. The teachers are great but the rest of the staff is just there to take your money. It's all that they're interested in. Admissions is ghetto and financial aid doesn't help at all with anything. No matter what you will have to make monthly payments to the school. Don't even think of asking your financial aid advisor to explain why you have to pay because you will never get a straight answer. One "financial aid advisor" is always on the phone and too busy to tend to the students and the other one is hard to understand.

For those of you in NJ; it's not too bad because clinical facilities are more or less within 45 minutes from the school.

For NY'rs; I'm not sure how they do it! Besides having to come into NJ you then have to travel to clinicals which are pretty far away for you.

You will be given two uniforms for FIVE days of school. So either you order more or wash every night. If you want to by extra the tops are $20 and so are the pants. You're also given a blood pressure cuff, cheap pen light and a horrible stethoscope that doesn't work at all. Invest in a good one because you'll need it. The basic Littmann brand scope should be sufficient.

Clinical classes need to be made up if you have to be absent and you will be constantly reminded that "it's a clock hour school". So, whether work has been finished or not you are forced to stay until dismissed and they take attendance at random times during the day in case anyone decides to leave. All of the teachers are nice but so unorganized. It always seems like none of them are ever on the same page.

At the end of the day I would suggest the other school mentioned above. Their students usually speak well of that school and everything is definitely better organized. They are a tad more expensive but in this case you get what you pay for.

Thank you for the update! Wow that sounds like shady business with financial aid, what a shame. This was very helpful thanks again

Hi! Did you ever decide between the two? Holy Name's programs are great. Total opposite of JC.
