Jehovah Witness RNs

Nurses General Nursing

Published

Ok, here I am waving my big "look at me" flag, hopefully not painting a giant target on myself..... :uhoh21:

Im looking for any RNs who are Jehovah's Witnesses. I am one (yes, active), and I have recently come across a work related issue that I have a question about. If anyone reading this is an active JW, please contact me (see email address on profile page) if you are comfortable talking. Thanks!

danamobile......

what are the odds that an entire unit would be staffed by nurses not willing to hang blood?

In OB it is much more likely to have your entire staff for the shift unwilling to care for a termination patient....

Re JWs, I find it interesting that they won't take blood into their bodies but eat meat which contains blood, last time I looked.

There are specific ways of slaughtering animals that include church approved methods of draining the blood--I assume similar to kosher and halal foods. Most of the JWs I know just get around this by being vegetarian, and not eating any meat.

Wow, what a thread. Finally got to the end...

Imagine that. A *religion* that has inconsistencies within it's teachings? Can you believe it, people within the religion interpreting the teachings differently? And even more scandalous, sometimes knowingly not following the teachings, even when they claim to be members of that faith?

I am SHOCKED, yes, SHOCKED, people. We need to tell someone at once. Someone must do something about this.

I am just at a loss. Human beings, acting inconsistently, oftentimes with kindness, occasionally dogmatically, now and then confused, and every once in a while like a complete jerk. Who would have ever guessed that HUMAN BEINGS are capable of such...such humanity.

I am certainly glad we won't see such a variety of interpretations and a diversity in practice within Christianity, Judaism, Islam, or any other major or minor religious or spiritual practice. Because that would just be more than my little brain could handle. By the looks of this thread, I'm not alone in my complete shock in regards to the behavior of these humans.

I have a question, please don't flame me for any ignorance shown!

I assume that in the US there must be some communities that are predominatly JW.Now if I ,a non JW were to be admitted to a hospital there where the nurses and doctors are JW and I wanted a blood transfusion, what then?

No, we don't live in our own little communities. There is no hospital staffed entirely of Witnesses.

Thank you ,reesern63, I did not know that.

nothing about willing, its about being able to, i don't know how short staff issues are where you work, but it makes my work chaotic sometimes! passing on tasks to someone, sometimes things get missed. im ending my posts here! i think religion is great and nursing as well, im glad we all can get by doing what we're doing :)

can a JW nurse or doctor answer these questions? im still a student and a JW myself,my classmates frequently ask me these, i always try to give an answer but sometimes its not that satisfying, about the questions posted here, when a JW nurse was asked if she would hang blood if ordered by a physician, i answer the same thing, ask another nurse to do it, but about the doctor thing, i don't know the answer to that. would be good if a doctor would provide one

ROTFLMAO!!!

Just as JW's are free to practice their cult, the rest of us are free to criticize. I was also raised a JW but when my parents divorced, was able to get the hell out of there.

For some of you coming down so hard on those who are speaking out against this "religion", and I use the term loosely, you need to understand the long term impacts of what this religion does to your family as well as your soul-it is horrible.

As far as JW's as nurses and their responsibilities, as long as their practice is safe and sound, I don't particularly care. I'm going to wish them Happy Birthday and Merry Christmas like I would anyone else.

thank you for your reply, but i hope you would not call the religious organization a cult, i understand your stand, but please, next time, feel free to criticize but still to the extent where we can still feel some respect from you, good day...

That is exactly right. However, this is a nursing board and the topic should be the practice of nursing as it intersects with the religion. This is not the place to air your personal issues and bitterness as it disrespects your fellow nurses and others who post here. I am sure there are other places you can go for that. Thanks for understanding........

I would suggest you direct your questions to www.noblood.org. You will find more appropriate information there suited to your questions.
