Hey! I thought I would start a thread for all the people that are applying for summer admittance into jeff state so we could get to know our possible future classmates. They're accepting 50 on each campus and with the compass completely gone,and the teas v being solely relied on plus course points of course, I think this will make for a INTERESTING admission process to say the least! Any input and comments are welcomed;-)
learn your abbervations for things: prn, po, os, bid, qd, and stuff like that. other than that i dont know theres much you can do. maybe look at top 200 drugs AND know there uses and what they do, what organs they affect. like definately know the cardiac meds cause they confusing. like if they are ace inhibiting or beta blocker, etc. i dunno what really else to study i been trying to figure out what we taking first semester. fundamentals, pharm and what else? and do you know what books we use??
Health assessment is the other class. I went to Jeff state today to turn in my background paper and went by the bookstore. The prices of the books are reasonable the highest one was the fundamentals book and it was around $118. I'm gonna start on the drugs and learn 10 a day starting tomorrow. I'm taking 202 as a mini term starting Monday so I won't have any time to learn anymore! Also like how hard are the conversions?. I'm terrified!
You went and turned it in to who? I thought they mailed it to Bonnie? My sheet said it did. They better of sent it to her. Did you not get them to send it? Anyway the problem are like this;
Calculate the IV flow rate for 0.031 L of D5W IV over 10.9 hr. Infusion set has drop factor of 17 gtts/mL. What is the IV flow rate in gtts/min?
answer: gtt means drops. so we looking for drops per(/) min... gtt/min.
0.031 L/10.9 hours well your trying to get that to drops and minutes.
10.9 hours is how many minutes? 10.9 times 60min= 654 minutes
okay so now we need to convert L to mL.
mcL to mL to L to kL (divide by 1000)
kL to L to mL to mcL (multiply by 1000)
so 0.031 L multiplied by 1000 = 31 mL
okay so if theres 31mL/654 min
now we need to find how many gtt in 31ml
well you know that there is 17gtts for every 1 mL to be infused
so if you have 17 drops per 1 ml(17gtt/1 ml)= and we have 31ml how many drops? let x=stand for gtt needed for 31 ml:
17gtt/1ml=xgtt/31ml
now cross multiply and you get that there is 527gtts/31ml
okay so now you can find gtts per minute because there are 527gtts/654min
so now
how many gtts are in one minute?
let x stand for gtts
xgtt/1min=527gtts/654min
cross multiply and then divide
answer is 0.8 but you will round that up to 1
so 1gtts/min is the correct answer
thats how i do it. but teachers may have another method and formula. thats what i am worried about. because some people count problems worng even though you got the answer right but didnt work the problem out the way they wanted you to. I dont know Jeff State strange. why did you take that up there? i looked and they sent my report to jeff state.
