Jeff State Summer 2009 Hopefuls

U.S.A. Alabama

Hey guys!

Since the spring applicants are recieving acceptance letters, I thought it would be about time to make a Summer '09 thread so we can all get to know each other and hopefully have some friends before school starts. Maybe we should tell a little about ourselves?

Starting in the Summer scares me(it's so much work!), but it's really my only option. I'm very very dedicated and I will do everything I can to make sure I'm successful in my courses. I don't have a job or a family to take care of so hopefully I'll be able to studystudystudy! I won't be taking any classes in the Spring because I'll have all my points(200, if I can pass math with an A or a B) so I'm going to volunteer my time with TEARS... it's an animal rescue and rehabilitation nonprofit company.

I am so excited to start nursing school!

I'm really sorry to hear that. I can't imagine what it is like to work so hard and get accepted only to have to turn it down. But, I'm sure that your 190 pts. will get you in this Fall. Good luck!

Enjoy your time off while you have it!! Start learning your calculations! And remember that its crazy the first couple of semesters :brnfrt: but it gets better by the 3rd! You'll make lasting friendships and great memories and all to quickly you'll be a :nurse:

I have the most wonderful husband! :redbeathe He bought me a Littman Classic II and a pair of NurseMate shoes the other day!

Hi, I live in gardendale. I am not sure how far it would be to drive to cacc. I have 4 chidren and would love to talk to get some pointers. Are you doin full time? My children are 15,12,4,8m0

C.P.

It takes about 40 minutes to get to CACC driving decent with no traffic on Hwy 280 from Inverness

From gardendale, I have heard that Wallace is not a bad drive. You should look into that.

Does anyone know a good way to increase compass scores? I also need some advice on applying to program this fall. I have 4 children with not much study time now that baby is getting more mobile. The ages are 15 12 4 8mo. I don't know if I should apply for fulltime and put her in daycare or try for partime and manage to stay at home with her. I don't work outside home but it is gettin hard managing school with her. I will have 181 to apply to wallace and Jeff State not sure wear else to apply. Help any suggestion?

Compass, just keep taking it, and take your time.

I'm in! 3rd times a charm! Prolly gonna wait for the Fall semester, tho.

Anyone know anything about the orange paper that says you might wualify for financial assitance? I am no longer eligible for federal loans--- which is stupid, because I've only borrowed about 3 semesters worth-- so I'm absolutely relying on scholarships at this point.

Hey Tantrum,

I just read a post about you going back to UAB...what happened to keep you at JSCC?

Hey Tantrum,

A few things, really--

1) their prerequisites would have taken me ANOTHER year before I could even APPLY.

2) Even if I DID complete those prerequisites and apply, their admissions process is different and it would still not be guaranteed that I'd get in-- whereas at Jeff State, i was one semester away from having a full 200 points and guaranteed acceptance.

3) Jeff States Reputation is actually stronger than UAB's! My mom was a nurse, for instance, and she always told me that the Jeff State new nurses knew what they were doing much more than any other school, including UAB, and that she genuinely enjoyed being their orientation nurse. She's not the only one I've heard it from, either.

4) and probably THE MOST INFLUENTIAL FACTOR-- I am no longer eligible for Financial Aid. UAB is more expensive, and paired with the fact that there were way more classes to take (therefore EVEN more money-- Haha) , the money situation would have been impossible.
