Jeff State under review? Which campus is better?

U.S.A. Alabama

I plan to start applying to nursing schools soon and Jeff State was one of my top choices. After looking into their program for a bit, I noticed really low grad rates, and people talking about them being under review and trying to avoid probation. This makes me nervous...anybody know anything about that? Also, which campus is better, the Jefferson or Shelby Hoover campus? They are both the same distance away from where I live. Any info would help...thanks!!

I am so glad to see someone else applying for the summer admission cycle for jeff state. Hopefully I get in with the A in chemistry and B in 201 and B in 220 I have! I've heard that it's a little easier to get in in the summer but classes are harder to deal with during summer admission! Can anyone tell me how true this is.. And does anyone know when applications will be available? Dealing is FEB. 6!!

You can apply now application are up I started the program last summer at the jefferson campus and just so you know the campus is old but the teachers are great I found 1st semster to be fun and it was easy it goes by fast as long as your not taking 2nd semster in the summer you are okay we only lost 2 people during first semster you only have 5 clinicals to do and we went to class mon. 9-12 tues. 8-4 wed.8-1230 and Thurs. or Fri. you get to pick from 930 to 1 for lab which ever day you pick is the day you will have clinicals on I would pick Fri. because you will need a break Just so you know starting in the summer will make 2nd semster go very slow because it is so long

So with the grades that I posted above do u feel like I have a good application? As far ask have a good/fair chance to get in?

I don't know they don't use the same system anymore I had a 184/ 200

First of all your Chem grade does not matter neither will ENG 102, Western Civ, Lit., etc. That is not in the ADN curriculum, that is AS-Nursing. They look at your math 100, your A&P 1 and 2, and Micro.

You do not need to worry about how many people fail each class, you need to be concerned with what percentage of their grads actually pass the N-CLEX after they graduate. What good will it do you to pass if you can't pass Boards? I am not sure what their pass rate is, but people tend to focus on the wrong things when looking at a nursing program.

First semester is the best one to take during the short summer semester, it is the easiest semester. By far the worst to take during the summer is 2nd or 3rd semesters, since they are the hardest.

Well... actually at jeff state Chem DOes matter...jeff state gives you points on

A&P 1

A&P2

Micro 220

Bio 103

Chemistry 104

Math 100+

This way if u make a B in a&p 2 (which most people do) you can substitute it for the A that u made in les say bio 103. Also jeff state promotes the BSN TRACK HEAVILY for their nursing program so this is why they give those points b

According to their own website they take math 100+, then the 3 highest grades from BIO 103, BIO 201, BIO 202, BIO 220, or college level chem. You can only get up to 90 pts for those science classes, A=30, B=20, C=10.

Yes. But if you look futher at the ranking sheet.. ALL 5 are interchangeable.. Meaning u can use which ever grades will give u the highest ranking wether it be bio 103, chemistry 104, and micro, or 201, 202, 0r 220. Plus I webt to jeff state and took my 201 before I transferred to Lawson so I'm very familiar with the advisors and how the nursing program works. And I've had several friends who've finished there and are currently in the program.

I'm so confused. I heard the Shelby Campus was better but I think I was reading an old post. As of 2010 which campus do y'all think is better? or has the higher pass rate for nursing board exam?

I'm in the full time program (3rd semester) at the Shelby campus...I started out at the Jefferson campus...Shelby is waaaay better, imho.

I think that shelby has a better campus but I think Jefferson has the better program since they Have cleaned house over there I mean theses teachers really want you to pass plus your at the main campus so if you need to go to F.A. or anything like that you don't have to wait you can go anytime
