Jeff State Fall 2013 hopefuls

U.S.A. Alabama

Hi Everyone,

I just applied to The RN program at Jeff State and I wanted to get a thread going for other Fall 2013 hopefuls. If you're like me, the next couple months of waiting is going to be torture and I just thought it would be helpful to have somewhere to go to help pass the time with others in our situation :) I'm pretty optimistic and think I have a good chance, but you just never know! What kind of scores did everyone apply with? I wonder what the cutoff will be? I was told it could be late July before we hear anything...anyone hear something different? Also, who is applying for part-time and who is applying for full-time?

Look forward to meeting you all and GOOD LUCK to EVERYONE!

I'm not unhappy with my score at a 78%, but I'd have still liked to have it at 80%. I'm unhappy that I feel like I wasted $40 and 2.5 hours of my time.

Thanks for the positive feedback. I have my fingers crossed. Good luck to you, as well.

GAH! July....The anticipation....it burns us!

Hey Everyone! I'm applying with 199 points into the nights/weekends program. I'm so nervous!

Good luck everyone! Take this time to get acquainted with dosage calculations and learning how to answer NCLEX style questions, it's a whole different experience! I am going into third semester and remember well the anxious feelings you guys have. Good luck again:)

The cut off score is different each semester. It just depends on how many people apply. One semester it was 180 and the next semester it was 185. It really just varies. I am in the nights and weekend program which only starts in the fall and I was called the the second week of June and got my official email about my acceptance on June 19th. You may have another month before you hear so don't panic!

n.igmatic1, can you recommend a good source to study from for the dosage calculations and NCLEX questions? I would love to get my hands on something, just to feel like I'm doing something in the meantime while we wait....I guess I'm kind of a nerd like that :) Of course I do start Micro in a couple weeks, so that'll probably keep me plenty busy!

Anyone else taking classes this summer?

Dosage Calculation made incredibly easy is a good one. And if I can make a suggestion, learn the dimensional analysis way of doing dosage calculation. I also like the Pearson Review and Rationale books are good. You can find one on each different subject. They have great info in them and have practice test. They have really helped me. Who do you have for Micro?

Hey Katty4982, I understand, I'm kinda a nerd like that too :) I used Calculate with Confidence 5th edition. I got it used off Amazon. I would also suggest Test Success by Nugent and Vitale to learn how to deconstruct NCLEX questions. Also used off Amazon. The Review and Rationale series is great as study aid. Just know that you guys will be reading more than you ever thought you would! Go to the online JeffState library, go to a regular library or bookstore and browse. Find a method or source that works best for you. let me know if I can help. GOOD LUCK!

Hello, I am a hopeful also. I applied with a 173 and after seeing the scores everyone has posted I am even more nervous!

Do you know what the cut off is?

No, it depends on where you applied for and what program. I think the requirements are generally higher for part time. For full time, I think it's generally in the low 180s, but it may range... I'm not sure, because it depends on who applies that semester.

I need help! I want to apply the Summer 2014. I have a C in Algebra. Should I retake it? Please help! Thanks:)

I would recommend retaking. The math class counts towards a lot of points in your overall points for acceptance. If you can bring that grade up, I would. It may be the difference between acceptance or not.
