is anyone familiar with jefferson davis community college in brewton? i've applied and am awaiting my answer which should come by late october. wish me luck!!

Hi guys! I love this thread it has been very helpful. I applied to JDCC last semester (to start in the spring 2010) and did not get in with a score of 145. I finished up Micro and retook the compass test and now have a score of 187 and if this score doesn't get me in (Fall 2010) i don't know what will. I live in Pensacola and i considered PJC, but decided against it. I have a few questions/concerns

1. Do you alternate campuses (brewton/atmore) every semester? (it seems like you do but i'm not sure)

2. Has anyone requested where to have clinicals (brewton/pensacola,jay)? Sniper1 mentioned that you are pretty much stuck with where they assign you and it bummed me out a bit because much of my decision was based on the fact that i would only have to drive up there twice a week.

3. Study groups yay or nay?

4. I would love to get a 'typical day being a nursing student'

Thanks again!

wow! there's a lot of great information posted here! i applied at jd for this last spring, was not accepted, and was devistated. but i turned my attention back to pjc and found out yesterday that i have been moved from alternate to cohort for august. i am thrilled and terrified at the same time. but, as said here many times, "work hard, work hard." i just need to remember that! thanks to you all for your kind words over the last many months, and best wishes to all.

Honeybee - that is awesome! I think we should all keep in touch regardless of where we are (I'll be at Alabama Southern). Maybe we could have a study group....could be beneficial to see what everyone is learning.

Congratulations on getting in!

hey guys... so i have been killing myself to finish ap 1 and lab and micro and lab... i have one more week..then i am taking ap2/lab for summer d(hate these 6 week classes)... then i will see by chance if i can get in to jd for spring... i have a 99 on test... it looks like i will get an a in ap and a b in micro... anyupdate on people getting in for fall right now? just trying to figure out how the points are working out for yall..pjc says i cant take hesi til sept and that will prob push me to fall of 2011 with them... i hate that u have to ut ur life and studies on hold when there is a demand for nurses bc of too few seats available. pjc is about to be a 4 year college but still doesnt seem to want to add more seats..how is everyone doing?

Just an update. I got into the jdcc program for this fall! I had 187 points. Courtlane143, From what I heard pjc's program is still an ADN program they are adding and ADN-BSN program though. So that's why they probably aren't adding more seats. Again this is just what I heard. Makes me feel a little better because I would be annoyed if I missed an opportunity to go straight for the BSN, although I am confidant that I made the right choice to go to jdcc (only time will truly tell haha). Good luck!

Congrats! I am so excited for you! Do you know where the point cut off was for your class? I dont have any new news about PJC...they aren't saying much. I hope I get into JD for the Spring. Do they let you stack classes so the drive wont be so bad? Do you have the option of clinicals in P-cola?

You do NOT get to choose where your clinicals are. You get what they give you.

I'm not sure what the cut off was. The only person I know who applied had more points than I did. As for classes, it seems like you only have class two days a week (monday and Tuesday) so that's not too bad. Plus, I'm sure you can find some one or a group to car pool with. I'll know more after aug 16 (my first day).

Have you heard anything new on how the class schedules will work for those of us who want to go to JD but live in Pcola? Also...I know I keep asking but has anyone heard what the points were this time? I feel confident that I have enough points but I also have a friend applying and she has worked so hard but has less points...just curious...

Are you still in the program kayty2339

any info on how many alternates actually get in

Are you still in the program kayty2339

Yes I'm still in the program. The summer was tough, but this fall semester(in what's supposed to be the hardest one yet, adults 2) has been much easier (to me) than adults 1 over the summer. Easy is probably not a good word to use though, because it's definitely still very demanding in my time, but I think I'm finally starting to get accustomed to nursing school life. My class that started spring 2010 has not seen failed rates like the previous classes did. The tests are still just as hard but I think they have added in other ways to make points in the classes other than just the tests, quizzes and case studies for example. That has helped a lot. They also have changed the re-entry process as well for people who do fail. It used to take a year or longer to get back into a class, bit now it's much quicker. I now say with full confidence that pjc is a good school. Nursing school is tough period whether you are at pjc or jdcc. It's all about what you are willing to put in to succeed.
