January NCLEX Study Group!

Nursing Students NCLEX

Published

Hi Friends!

I am taking the NCLEX in January. I will graduate from my accelerated BSN program in mid-December, just before Christmas. This is an 11.5 month ABSN program and is make-your-head-spin-fast!

I am still deciding whether I will take the Hurst Review or the Kaplan Review, but I do have the Saunders 4th Edition NCLEX-RN Comprehensive Review book. It is huge! Honestly, I feel overwhelmed and feel like I do not know where to begin. I will just begin at the beginning! Care to join me on this wild ride?!?! We can encourage one another along the way!:typing

As part of my study program, I want to incorporate exercising at least 20 minutes a day and eating healthier snacks. Grabbing an apple and cheese instead of pepsi and cheetos!:pumpiron:

Let's do this thing!!!!

:yelclap:

how did you do on your trainers?

i can't remember exactly, the last 2 are pretty brutal, i think around 60-65% or so. i feel that Kaplan prepared me very well, you are gonna be fine!

dont get burned out now, if you feel your brain turning off or glossing over when you start some questions dial it back a tad or take a half day off.

You did well! Kaplan wants you to aim for a 60% for their Question Trainers 6 & 7! I've been looking through the rationales and that helps me remember why the answer is what it is. SATA's and unfamiliar meds are what get me :(

the SATAs are so nerve-wracking! i always overthink those bigtime. i had some unfamiliar meds on the exam but i was able to figure many of them out looking at the suffixes. be sure to take your time, i always found myself rushing thru but my kaplan teacher told us constantly: you have 6 hours which is tons of time even if you are a slow tester! it's tricky, don't spend so much time on a question that you overthink it to death but spend enough time for it to compute so you dont think of the answer AFTER you've hit the submit button.

:twocents:

this is probably too nosy, but have a cool job lined up yet?

Yea, I tend to read too fast and I'm making myself slow down so I don't miss important words..I'm actually in Philadelphia and the job market is pretty bad here so I'm going to be applying after I pass the boards..you?

Oh and how did you study the meds? I made flash cards with the common endings and have been looking over those daily (like -olol: beta blockers, -pril: ACEI, etc)

flash cards annoy me, i tend to lose them so i made an outline writing on blank printer paper, -olol = beta blockers equals lowers heart rate = check apical pulse before admin and so on. i've actually been very very lucky, i landed a job in the IMC last week but it took me over 100 resumes and 6 interviews... the job market here in central texas is quite competitive but not completely shut down like i've heard about other cities. i lived in pittsburgh for 3 years, i've heard that pittsburgh is pretty bad for RNs now too. i will put positive energy out there for you on the job front (your nclex front is )

Congrats guys!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey guys! Just an update I took the RN boards today around 12 and only had 75 questions. I tried the PVT so I got the pop up so I hope this means I really passed! Does anyone know if the PVT has ever been wrong, like it gave you the pop up but you still failed? Just asking but I feel pretty good about it! I will check back with you guys in the next few days once I get my quick results! Soon to be RN :nurse:
