Jails without correctional officers walking with you?

Published

I went on a "jail tour" awhile back when I applied for a "jail job". The nursing supervisor and I went on the tour by ourselves. I rarely saw any correctional officers. She said everyone is being watched by "cameras".  I don't know. It made me uncomfortable. We passed a "few inmates" on our tour. So is this the "new normal" now?

If that is the "new normal' run quickly and do not look back. Left correctional nursing after 20 years in the IDOC. We had guards but never was it only nurse. It is an invitation to liability central. The nurse is going to be alone and be blamed for everything. My experience was over 20 years in level 3 and level 2.There is a honeymoon phase and then stuff hits the fan.Do not. There are other prison jobs out there.Just my 2 cents worth.

I wouldn't feel the need for an officer to be with me on a tour but find out if an officer will be with you during all patient interaction.

I have had several facility tours conducted by medical staff. Officers are only necessary when you are performing a duty that will put you in close proximity to inmates.

Never mind the blame.  What about nurses' safety?
