Psych nurse action figure ?
I come from back in the day when Thorazine was the drug of choice for almost all psych patients. 'Successful treatment' was keeping them snowed enough to be quiet and not cause a ruckus. Then someone decided that it was not therapeutic for the patient to be snowed all the time. Way to ruin a quiet shift.
Thorazine, take me away!!!!
My god, the patient group I've had this week..... These people. I got to witness genuine hospital delirium (not just sundowners) for the first time. Holy crap that's intense. I had two poly substance users (both of them coke, meth and alcohol - cardiology was asking if we missed a party or something), one of those patients threatening suicide. One late stage Alzheimer's who randomly wouldn't remember she doesn't walk anymore. One guy who I thought was totally with it, but after his wife left, it went down hill.
Somewhere in all that mess, three totally alert, oriented, regular patients. It's just mind blowing. We aren't psych. We're not equipped for psych. My hospital doesn't even have a psychiatrist with privileges. That is how NOT psych we are. These patients required way more than I had in me. I am completely mentally and physically tapped out.
Heck, give ME the Thorazine and I'll sleep the horror of these shifts off.
Is that on topic? I don't know if that's on topic. I want a Jacob Rockstar RN Action Figure to bring with me to work.
Is 10 and 2 a driving reference? Or a Happy Clock reference?
If you look at the bottles of those two particular psych meds, they're dosages.
I had a friend once who was addicted to unhappiness. She was a great story-teller and she would repeat her woes ad infinitum, like a person repeating the rosary...one story for each bead.
She used to quiver, angry, and say "I'm NOT CRAZY!". Well, that may be so, but she sure was effed up emotionally.I said about her, probably the unkindest thing I have ever said about anyone: She's the biggest waste of human brain tissue I've ever met.
Davey Do, I'd like to pose a relevant question to our local superhero, Jacob Rockstar-RN Action Figure. (P.S. My iPad changed Davey to Cagey.)
Jacob Rockstar-RN Action Figure, as a floor nurse on a frequently short staffed step down unit in a rural community hospital lacking in patient or in house psychiatric care, I find myself overwhelmed by the needs of patients who we can't get psych consults for. The closest dedicated psych facility is quite far away as well. How can those in this situation cope without needed staff and consults?
