Interesting article. Have any of you LTC nurses experienced this trend?
"U.S. Attorney Carmen Ortiz says the drugmaker paid tens of millions of dollars in kickbacks so nursing homes would put more residents on its strong Risperdal drug."

"kickbacks in the nursing home pharmacy context are particularly nefarious because they can result in excessive prescribing of strong drugs to patients who have little or no control over the medical care they are receiving," u.s. attorney carmen ortiz said, in a statement. "nursing home doctors should be able to rely on the integrity of the recommendations they receive from pharmacists, and those recommendations should not be a product of money that a drug company is paying to the pharmacy."
i can only imagine the horror of being an elderly resident in one of these nursing homes. what a shame and disgrace.

Wow. I'm shocked. Drug companies are evil and out for bucks. Imagine what's going on that we don't know about......

Why am I not surprised....Its just another way to farm the government by encouraging the usage of more expensive drugs that may not be any more effective for the management of behavioral issues.

Utterly and totally outrageous. How on earth do these people sleep at night, knowing that they are putting elderly people at harm only so they can make more money?
Oh yeah---they take their own drugs.
